Her bread-and-butter is defense - and this is not a very good defensive team.

I agree about the historic inability to make an entry pass. TaQuandra penetrates and make some nice interior passes, but Kiki is a slasher and the rest are jump shooters. Was Marija out there (after hardly playing at all this year - eight minutes in this game brings her season totals to thirteen minutes in three games) because she could make an entry pass or two? Oh, Sabrina can get the ball inside from a high-low setup, but a lot of the inside offense follows an offensive rebound, not a pass inside.

And @oldtimewomen's hoopcoach:, who knows far, far more than I do, can correct any and all of this.

And the guy couldn't shut up. The play-by-play fellow could barely get in a word edgewise. May as well have turned off the sound and just watched.
      FANTASTIC Mitch Fiegel reference!!!!

Other Valley results from Sunday's games:

        Drake 87 - 36 @ Illinois State
        Northern Iowas 72 - 53 @ Bradley
        Missouri State 78 - 60 @ Southern Illinois

Looks to me like the Valley is split between the best (Drake, UNI and Missouri State) and the rest. Maybe SIU, Indiana State, WSU and Bradley in the middle with Evansville, Illinois State and Loyola on the bottom of the pile. Not real sure about Indiana State yet and quite frankly the Shocks have looked very shaky over their past 3 games and appear to be regressing instead of progressing.

The Lady Shocks are coming off 3 road games in which they performed poorly. Very poorly in losses at Missouri State and at SIU. Somehow they managed to survive a 4 point 3rd Quarter at Evansville to pull out a win against a pretty bad Purple Aces team. Against Evansville Jody went with what I thought was a very ill-advised platoon system that for the most part seemed to do more harm than good. But that is my opininion only.

Now we find out that the team is turmoil again having boycotted practice on Truesday with an announcement today that Jody will not be allowed to coach the team this weekend.

The Shockers (6-10, 1-4) have two opponents this weekend that are eminently beatable. The Shockers take on Bradley (5-11, 1-4) tonight at 7:00 pm and Illinois State (4-12, 1-4) on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
These 3 teams together with Loyola are all currently tied for last place in the Valley standings.

This has the potential to go badly or to go well. Not sure if Jody was at practice on Wednesday or Thursday but this team could be so distracted about what this week has wrought and by what next week may bring that they totally implode. OTOH, the team may come out rejuvenated that ADDB is at least taking their concerns seriously and play their best basketball of the year. Or anything somewhere in between those extremes. Who knows.

I hope they play well and have a little fun. Go Shocks!

            Halftime: Bradley 28 - 25 Wichita State

Not exactly a scintillating half of basketball but after a sluggish start the Shocks got back into the game. Still pretty much using 5-5-5 platoon system. 5-in, 5-minutes, rotate 5, 5 minutes, rotate 5, etc.

At this time, probably not going to make any real changes from what Adams would do.

Good 3rd quarter for the Shocks. They lead 50-45. Went away from the strict platooning although they still were using the bench. Rangie played all 10 minutes and Diamond Lockhart had a solid quarter as well.

Shocks win 65 - 54. Rangie played 18 minutes in the 2nd half and finshed with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Personally, I was glad to see Coach Crawford drop the strict platooning. He was still able to use his bench iberally. I thought Brittany Martin gave the Shocks some good minutes in the 2nd half especially on the defensive end. Taquandra Mike came off the bench and hit some key baskets in the 4th quarter.

Shocks move out of the cellar.

                      Other Friday Games

                      MISSOURI STATE 65-60 Illinois State

                      DRAKE 89-46 Loyola

                      NORTHERN IOWA 59-47 Indiana State

All as expected, although the Bears's margin was less than might be expected.

Yes, I was surprised at the Illinois State - Missouri State score. I think it was a one possession game until MSU hit a couple of free throws at the end of the game.

The Drake score is about as expected. Lizzy Wendell scored 25 points on 14 shots in 22 minutes of play. Freshman Becca Hittner had a 15 point, 10 rebound double-double in 18 minutes of play. Can you say mismatch.

Northern Iowa just does what it takes to win. The Drake-UNI games will be a very interesting contrast of styles. The leagues best offense against the leagues best defense.

Hopefully, the Shocks take another step today to distance themselves from the Valley cellar. Bradley, Loyola and Illinois State are sharing that cellar going into today's games. Bradley and Loyola are likely to lose to Missouri State and Northern Iowa today.

Illinois State (4-13, 1-5) is not a good team. However, the Redbirds game Missouri State a much tougher game in Springfield on Friday than the Shockers did a coupe weeks ago. In fact, the Shockers were blown out. However, bassed on comments from the MSU fan board the Bears did not appear to take the Redbirds seriously (and it almost cost them).

The Shocks seemed to handle the current turmoil surrounding the program pretty well in defeating Bradley on Friday and they should be able to handle Illinois State at home as well. But who knows. The Valley looks to be very top heavy this year with Drake and UNI pulling away from the pack and just about anything possible with the rest of the league.

Beleive it or not the Shockers at 2-4 are currently sitting in a 3-way tie for 5th with SIU and Evansville with SIU playing at Evansville today. I thinks SIU will one that one but agains who knows.

                            Other Sunday Games

                            DRAKE 76-62 Indiana State

                            NORTHERN IOWA 68-30 Loyola
                            Loyola is in shambles.

                            Bradley 75-73 (OT) MISSOURI STATE
The Bears lost a six-point lead in the fourth quarter, a five-point lead with three and one-half to play. After Bradley went on an 8-0 run, Missouri State needed a three-ball with four seconds remaining to send the game to OT. The Braves controlled the OT with a late three by the Bears making the score close.

                            EVANSVILLE 63-60 Southern Illinois

Drake and UNI are the toast of the conference. The rest of the teams are toast, burnt to varying degrees.

Wichita State 67 - 45 Indiana State. Shocks pulled away late outscoring the Redbirds 26-9 over the final 12 minutes of the game.

Angiee Tompkins led the way for the Shocks with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Rangie Bessard chipped in 16 points. The Shockers shot 27-54 (50%) from the field while the Redibrids only made 17-50 (34%) incuding 3-15 from behind the arc.

The Shocks move to 3-4 in Valley play good for a tie for 5th with Evansville and only one game out of 3rd place behind Missouri State and Indiana State.

Well put. As they say at NASA we have separation. Unfortuantely for the other Valley teams they find themselves in t caught in the after burn. At this point the only thing the other 8 Valley teams are playing for is a top 6 finsih to stay out of the Valley Tournament play-in round.

Missouri State looked like they may have found themselves over the previous two weekend with blowotus wins over WSU at home and on the road against Evansville and SiU. Their play this weekend would seem to indicate they may have reverted to the way they were playing previous to that.

Shocks are on the road at Indiana State and Loyola next weekend. Indiana State will most likely give the Shocks a challenge. Loyola not so much.
