  • 2016 MVC Women's Golf Championship - Sun, Apr 17th thru Tue, Apr 19th

The Lady Shocks have been installed as the pre-tournament favorite to win the 2016 MVC Women's Golf Championship hosted by Loyola and played at Harborside International Golf Center's Port Course. The course is a par-72, 6,000-yard course, located in the south Chicago.

Missouri State is picked 2nd and Bradley 3rd and should give the Shocks a strong challenge. I assume Loyola, picked 5th, will have the advantage of being familiar with the course.

Pretty solid day for the Lady Shocks. Good balance scoring outside of Meghan. I was expecting MSU and Bradley to give the Shocks a run for the title. Bradley is right there only 2 shots behind the Shocks. Indiana State is in 3rd place 9 shots off the pace.

However, Missouri State who was picked to finish 2nd and have played very competitively with the Shocks in a couple of tournaments this spring had a very poor day today and find themselves in dead last 23 shots behind the Shocks at +32.

In early 2nd round action with 3 holes played the Shocks are at even par. However, the individual scores don't seem to match up. The Shocks best 4 scores after 3 holes were
E, -1, -2, E which would put them at -3 for the day. Not sure how to reconcile that.

Maria Alejandra Villalobos has the throw away score right now as she triple-bogeyed #1.

Update: They now have the team leaderboard synced up with the Shocks having 3-6 holes on their scorecards. The Shocks have picked up a bogey but are now -2. Bradley is -1 on the day so they remain right on the heels of the Lady Shocks.

The top 3 teams coming into Round 2 (WSU, Bradley and Indiana State) are paired in the same groups.

After 6 holes in Round 2 Bradley is 4-under on the day and has edged in front of the Shockers who are now 1-+under on the day. Bradley is at +7 for the tournament while the Shocks now sit at +8.

Indiana State is in 3rd but well off the pace at 22-over 2 shots ahead of SIU in 4th. MSU is even on the day and has moved in to 7th but hard to see how they can overcome their bad Round 1 as they are stills siting at 32-over for the tournament.

Both Bradley and the Shocks have a 3-stroke spread between their current throw away score and their 4th best score at this point.

9 holes now in the books for the leaders and the Shocks have moved back in front. The Shocks are -2 on the day and -7 for the tournament. Bradley is now at -1 on the day and -10 for the tournament.

Taryn Torgerson is -3 for the round and has move into a tie for medalist honors at -1 for the tournament.

Slight correction 3 players for each of the two team leaders have registered scores for 9 holes. Holes 7, 8 and 9 still pending for 2 players on each of the two leading teams.

The team leaderboard doesn't seem to be functioning properly again but the individual scorecards show that with 3 players each scoring completed through 9 holes and 2 players each through 12 holes I have the Shocks at 1 over on the day and 10 over for the tournament and Bradley at even par for the day and 11 over for the tournament.

Bryce Schoeder ran into trouble on Nos. 11 and 12 going double-bogey, bogey to go from +1 to +4 on her round. However, Maria Alejandra Villalobos has rallied from her opening hole triple-bogey and another front 9 bogey with a couple of birdies since then to go from +4 to +2. Bryce's score is now the current throwaway score.

Megan Schuetz Jack is in the clubhouse at +1 on the day for the Shocks. Bryce Schroeder has stumbled through the middle part of her round going double-bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey on holes 11 through 14 that puts her at +6. We need Taryn, Maria and Gavrila to finish off their final 3 holes in solid fashion.

Update: Maria Alejandra does her job finishing off par-par-par and a very nice 2-over round considering she opened the round with a triple-bogey.

Not sure what is going on with Indiana State's scores. Their player that was in Megan's pairing still only has a score through 15 posted even though Megan and the Bradley player pair with her have had scores posted 20 minutes ago. The other 7 teams have been totally finished for even longer than that.

Fortunately, for the Shocks, the Bradley #2 also stumbled badly on the home half, going from -3 to +3. Unfortunately for the Braves her score will be used (not that it is an awful score), because they also have a +7 and a +11.

Gavrilla does her job as well going birdie-par-bogey to finish at a very solid +1 for the round.

Just waiting no to see how Taryn finishes up.

Yeah, the Shocks were helped greatly by Maria Alejandra righting her ship and putting up a solid score. That gave the Shocks the ability to have one of the other players stumble without hurting too much. Bradley's two highest scores were +7 and +11 which did not give them any room to absorb any other stumbles.

Taryn finishes par-par-birdie and the Shocks will finish at a very solid 1-over on the days round. Taryin finished today 3-under and is now 1-under for the Tournament which and in strong contention for medalist honors.

Now just waiting to see what there lead will be heading into the final round tomorrow.

Looks like Indiana State has finished strong at 1-under for the round and 17-under for the Tournament trailing the shocks by 7 strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.

Bradley struggled a bit on the back 9 and finished at 10-over for the round and 21-over for the Tournament trailing the Shocks by 11 strokes.

It is another 11 strokes back to SIU in 4th place.

At this point it is a 3-team tournament. Nice to have a 7 stroke lead but that is not by any means an insurmountable lead in collegiate team golf.

In looking at the scores the Shocks had scores of -3, +1, +1 and +2 with Bryce's +7 being the throw away score. At least Bryce did birdie her final hole so hopefully that will help her psyche a bit heading into tomorrow's final round.

Indiana State had scores of -1, E, E and E and threw out a 10-over round from their 5th golfer.

Indiana State is a surprise as they were picked to finish 7th. I had expected Missouri State and Bradley to give the Shocks their biggest challenge. Bradley has been very tough until they ran into some struggles on the back 9 today. Missouri State is out of it 41 over par and 31 shots off the Shockers pace.
