The Shockers journey to Lincoln this weekend to play three games over Saturday and Sunday against the Huskers. The first game of two on Saturday starts at 1pm with the Sunday game also starting at 1pm.
Nebraska, a perenially strong program who have played in the NCAA Tournament all but two years of the last twenty-one, have moved into the polls at 23/RV. The Big 10 (consisting of 12 schools) does not do the preseason thing like most conferences, but Michigan and Minnesota from the conference are also ranked. The Huskers current record is 10-3. As you would expect, they play a pretty strong pre-conference schedule. They have a win over 7 Oregon and losses to 1 Florida and 9 Washington. At the UNI Dome Classic, they beat Northern Iowa 7-4 in extras, scoring three in the seventh to get to the eighth, and run-ruled Drake.
Their offense is led by MJ Knighten with an OPS of 1.543 and eight home runs, Kiki Stokes with an OPS of 1.199 and Alicia Armstrong with an OPS of 1.185 and four home runs. Knighten and Stokes were first-team all-Big 10 members last year. Three pitchers have almost equally shared the innings. Cassie McClure has an ERA of 1.63 and WHIP of 0.93, Emily Lockman, ERA of 3.03 and WHIP of 1.33, and Kaylan Jablonski, ERA of 4.04 and WHIP of 1.58. Lockman was a second-team all-Big 10 selection last year.
The Shockers now have a record of 8-6, playing a schedule of some consequence. PaigeL is the only starter with an OPS greater than 1 at 1.132. Kelli leads the team in hitting at .391, but all but one of her eighteen hits are singles. Macklin has an OPS of 1.102 with about half of the plate appearances of the full-time starters.
Katie, who has most of the innings and half the starts in the circle, has an ERA of 3.92 and a WHIP of 1.43. Jenni, with the best W-L record at 4-1, has an ERA of 3.04 and a WHIP of 1.58. Kelsey (3.77 and 1.54) and Ashlynne (5.44 and 1.78) round out the staff.
