Shocker women place 2nd at Nebraska ... Nebraska 164, Wichita State 132, Colorado State 131, Illinois State 95
Pretty good meet for the Shocks, Nebraska is always one of the best teams in the country. Colorado State is usually strong in the Mountain West. Illinois State will probably be a middle of the pack MVC team this year.
--Highlight of the meet was Jamesia Milton breaking the school record in the Weight Throw, 66-10. She is also currently ranked 10th in the NCAA. She's having a very good season in this event.
--Taylor Larch-Miller ran a PR of 8.46 to win the 60m hurdles. With Nikki still out, Taylor seems to be picking up some of the slack. She also ran a leg on a strong 4x4 that ran 3:47.
--Freshman Rebekah Topham continues to impress as she won the 800m in 2:14 and ranks 3rd in the MVC.
--Sidney Hirsch ran an indoor PR in the 5k of 17:01 to win and moves to the top of the Valley.
WSU has a great group of multi's and this week will travel up to UNI to do the Pentathlon. Next meet of team significance is 2 weeks at Air Force.

Congratulations to Breanne Borman for setting a new WSU and MVC record in the pentathlon today at Northern Iowa with a score of 4,120 points.
The previous WSU record was held by All-American Tanya Friesen who scored 4,043 points in 2013, while the MVC record was Malaikah Love from SIU with 4,092.
I am assuming that is probably a NCAA Championship qualifying score but not totally sure about that.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Wichita State multi-athlete Breanne Borman set the school and Missouri Valley Conference record in the Pentathlon at the Jack Jerret UNI Invitational today with 4,120 points.

Thanks 1972 Shocker for the update on Borman - it was an outstanding performance by her and puts her #10 in the NCAA. The top 16 qualify for the nationals at the end of the indoor season so we'll have to wait and see if that score holds up. In the absence of Nikki Larch-Miller it's great to see another Shocker with elite level ability in the multi's. Borman's sister is an Olympic Javelin thrower so she has it in the genes!
Besides Borman the rest of the girls did well in the Pentathlon too. Gavyn Yetter scored a PR 3773 coming off ACL surgery last year - great to see her doing so well. Freshman Claudia Rojo from Spain did well in scoring 3661 and Jenny Pinkston scored 3711 coming off an injury from last year. UNI's Paige Knodle didn't finish the event and she is at the level of Borman so it will be interesting to see them matchup again in 4 weeks.

I was really impressed with Rebekah Topham's 3,000 meter race and she is only a Freshman. I have a feeling this is an athlete Shocker fans will want to follow closely over her career.
I noticed Nikki Larch-Miller is in a walking boot so at this point I think it is pretty certain she will not be avialable for the indoor season. Whether she can get back for any part of the outdoor season remains to be seen

Valley Indoor Championships are this weekend at the UNIdome in Cedar Falls. Both the Shocker men and the Shocker women have been installed as pre-meet favorites.
Wichita State is the pre-meet Valley favorite in both the men's and women's indoor track and field polls in a vote of the Valley head coaches.
Go Shocks!

The Bad News: UNI's Paige Knodle broke the MVC scoring record of 4,126 points that Shocker Breanne Borman had set earlier this year with a score of 4,138 points.
The Good News: Breanne put up an even better score of 4,178 points to set win the Pentathlon and sent a new MVC standard.
Even Better News: Shockers Gavyn Yetter, Marteisha Caines, Jenny Pinkston, Claudio Rojo finished 3rd, 5th, 6th and 8th to give the Shocks a total of 24 points in the pentathlon and get their quest for an MVC indoor title off to a good start.
The Pentathlon includes the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jum and 800m run.
