Kelli scored one of the runs after reaching on an error, so her run has to be unearned. A run scoring on a wild pitch is not unearned because of that event. The pitcher threw the pitch, it is her fault and the run would be earned given no extenuating circumstances.

      Bears 7-4 Shockers

Melanie had a double in the sixth but was cut down at the plate on Brianne's pinch-hit single. Three up, three down in the seventh.

Kelsey did a decent job in her 3.1 innings - three hits, two walks and two strikeouts. But one of the hits was the big fly in the fourth that scored the deciding three runs.

Brittany had two hits again including a triple. Cacy, Brittany and Mackenzie had the three RBI for the Shocks, and Cacy and Melanie doubled.

The Shocks complete the round-robin portion of the tournament in the morning against Stephen F. Austin. I would expect to see Ashlynne in the circle. I would also expect that we will turn right around and play them again in the afternoon in the 2/3 bracket game.

Pitching yielded nine runs today, but five errors and a passed ball made four of the nine runs unearned.

          Baylor 10-3 SFA

Baylor broke open a close game in their last two at-bats. Their two secondary pitchers made the coach anxious, and he brought Stearns back to the circle in the sixth with the score 5-3.

Baylor Sr. OF Kaitlyn Thumann tied an NCAA record with 3 triples against SFA becoming the 12th playing to achieve that mark. She also become Baylor's all-time leader in triples.

Baylor's Softball facilities are pretty impressive. Check out the photos on their website.

Does the Shocker softball team use the baseball indoor practice facility?

                  Yes. From goShockers.com description.

The climate-controlled facility will be utilized during inclement weather by Shocker baseball as well as Shocker softball, track and golf teams. It will also be used for conditioning and training activities by all 15 sport programs.
Whether it is actually used by all our sports I can't really say, but Baseball and Softball for sure.

Shocker Jr. Ashlynne Neil, a juco transfer from San Mateo College (CA), is in the circle this morning against SFA.

A pair of wins today would most likely give the Shocks another shot at Baylor in tomorrow's championship game.

I think that I heard or read that Baylor has spent massive amounts of money over the past few years upgrading athletic facilities.

The Shocks and SFA into the 6th in a scoreless tie.

The Shocks load the bases with 2 outs for Cacy Williams who worked the count in her favor at 3-1 before delivering a 2-run double to left-center.

Ashlynne Neil working on a 1-hitter through 5. SFA has the top of the order up in the 6th.

Ashlynne creating her own jam in the 6th. Got the 1st out but has walked the next 2 batters and has been behind in the count to all 3 hitters she has faced this inning.

HCKB decides that's enough a brings Kelsey Sterneker in to try and get out of inning.

Kelsey got the 1st batter she faced on a FC grounder to 2B. She then hit the next batter to load the bases. An infield single scored a run from SFA before Kelsey got the final out on a FC grounder to SS.

Both Ashlynne and Kelsey consistently pitched behind in the count in the 6th.

Paige Mason doubled with 1-out in the 7th but was thrown out at 3B trying to stretch it to a triple. Can't say how close it was but probably a reasonable gamble to take in that situation.

Kelsey jumps ahead of the lead-off hitter 1-2 in the bottom of the 7th but then gives up a double. Runner on 3rd with 1-out after a sac bunt.

Kelsey induces a pop-up to CF with the runner holding at 3rd for the 2nd out.

Kelsey gets to a 3-2 count on the next batter before getting a pop up to SS to end the game.

Shocks hang on for a 2-1 win by the very narrowest of margins.

Very nice debut in the circle for Ashlynne Neil, although she needs to cut down on the walks (5 in 5.1 innings).

Kelsey had her ups and downs but her ups were just enough. Great experience an a pressure situation for the Freshman.

Looking ahead this would appear to be the most likely scenario (assuming TAM-CC does not upset Baylor in the final round robin game):

Baylor beats TAM-CC in the final round robin game next.

Baylor plays TAM-CC (as the #4 seed) again at 3:00 pm

The Shocks (#2 seed) play SFA again at 5:30 pm with the winner advancing to the championship game against the Baylor-TAMCC 3 o'clock game (most likely Baylor).

Katie Malone will probably start both this evening's game, and IF the Shocks win, the championship game tomorrow.
