Terrific turnaround by Jody and the crew. Time to come home and play in front of thousands of screaming 8 year olds.
So Ohio State, a team WSU beat by 15 and led by as many as 24 (mostly 20-24 in the 2nd half) beats FGCU by 7, a team that throttled WSU by 17 led by as many as 29 (mostly 22-29 in the 2nd half)?

    Makes sense.......

The common theme in the Shocks 2 losses is that they couldn't hit the ocean standing in a row boat. Their shooting was very solid in the wins over OSU and Clemson but their ball movement on offense was also much better leading to better shots. I also like the 3-2 match-up zone Jody has added to the mix defensively.

          What's Up?

Can someone with some insider information tell me why our sophomore class does not play any minutes that are worth anything? Even when were up by 20 or when the game is gone, these young ladies, Joleesa, Mariah, and Kayla do not go in but yet a freshman that is 5'2" and is too small to really play D1 and another young lady who goes in that is a walking turnover/foul waiting to happen. How can these two players instantly got the system down, which I hold my breath for the whistle, but these 3 that have been on the team for over a year don't? These young ladies are supposed to be our upper classman next year and are receiving no minutes. All three have shown that they can be shooters and hold their own on defense. What is up with that? Anyone got inside info? I'm just not seeing what I'm missing here? Would like to see a little of all the players. No way can you stay in the "doghouse" for 2 full years, we have too much potential that is sitting, anyone know why and whats the story? This is the 5th game of the season and these girls have shown in their minimal minutes that they all three have what it takes. Kayla shot well yesterday and held her own defensively yesterday, today Joleesa made shots and did well, and Mariah instantly rebounds.

Given the fact that Kayla is averaging 20 minutes per game, it is a hard sell that there is an overall refusal to give sophomores playing time. Also hard to say that it is a 2 year doghouse since last year Jalessa got way more playing time than Kayla. My guess is that the coaches have a much larger sample size to work with from practice performance than fans do from a handful of games.

BTW, Insulting other players who are getting some time (although A) one of those two is a sophomore herself and B) they aren't getting huge minutes) isn't the best way to advocate for your case in my opinion.

Very unlikely that the few insiders who could respond to you authoritatively will be posting on this forum.

Looks like Chapell is now getting minutes. Brittany is improving. Kayla gets lost on defense. No clue about Mo. I heard Jody wants to move her on.

You just agreed with me that these girls have earned minutes and have proved themselves on the court, no reason when game is gone or 20 pt lead that they can't get some time. You sound like you have inside information - more details? You a coach? Not building a case trying to understand the reasoning of recruiting players and then not playing them. these three ladies was from Wichita's top recruited class. Tired of seeing young ladies transferring or graduating with bitterness. We've had too many over the years. Not sure why that's necessary. I enjoy going to the games and getting to know them. Not trying to insult anyone want the best for this team. Would like to see more balance like I see other teams have. The freshman is 1 for 12 on shooting and all defense has to do is hold the ball above their head and she can't reach it, and the, my mistake, sophomore had 9 TO with the few minutes you describe. I'm not the one that called her a project. Trying to figure out the reasoning.

I don't have inside info. I'm an old player/coach who travels the country and became a fan. I ask the girls when I see them at Koch when I walk. I state my observations about the game. Strategy etc. I have no idea about playing time.

Chapell getting minutes will eat into Kayla's minutes. IIRC Kayla made two glaring basic mental mistakes against Clemson. She passed the ball from the frontcourt to Alex while she was still in the backcourt even though she wasn't being pressured and she ran the baseline on an inbounds play immediately after the ref told her she couldn't do that. I didn't react very positively to those mistakes myself.

Brittany Martin is definitely a project but it is obvious why she sees the floor. Her length and physicality are something are in very short supply. Still she is only playing spot minutes and only played 7 minutes against Clemson.

Aundra is on the small side. OTOH so was Marisa Henderson who gave the Shocks a couple of decent years at the point a while back. Time will tell on her but she is not seeing much time either and only played 5 minutes against Clemson.

I am assuming Mo is Moriah Dapprich.

I would also like to see Jody give the youngsters a little more playing time and commented don this last year but that just doesn't seem to be her style or philosophy and I think that is what it boils down to.

We do have K-State and Tennessee coming up in a couple of weeks and the Shocks have been wildly inconsistent so far so it's possible Jody wants to get her team as finely tuned as possible with that facing her.

We'll see what happens Friday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff who is 1-3 with losses at Cincy by 16 and at Xavier by 37 plus a loss to NAIA Talladega College (AL). It's only win is against NAIA Philander Smith College (AR). APB's RPI is 343 and that excludes the NAIA games.

These are just my observations and opinions. I have no inside information whatsoever to share.

Your best option for getting the inside information you're looking for would be to call Jody's radio show and get the answers from the ultimate source.

She is on tonight at 7:00 pm on KNSS 1330. I think the number is 436-1330.

There is no women's show tonight. They are traveling back from the VI. Next show a week from tonight.

Ted Woodward reported that there was a show tonight on the Steve and Ted Show this morning but he could easily had been mistaken.

I enjoy coming to this site as I have gotten a lot of useful information about the team before I started and the MVC as well. I'm impressed with everyone's knowlegde here and appreciate your support of Shocker women's hoops! I will check in here and there and be happy to answer what questions I can! Go Shockers!
