So, is it too soon to start getting excited about how the ladies are doing in the Valley and for the season. I mean, they just put a two game thrashing on the unanimous pre-season pick for 1st. The other top picked teams, other than maybe Ill St, don't seem to be that much better than the picked bottom half as witnessed again today.

For me, I very pleased with the direction this program is headed and how quickly it has gotten to this point. I'll let those of you more in the know calm me down, if you wish.

Keep in mind that UNI is the 1st Valley team expected to finish in the top half of the league that the Shocks have played this year. They still have 4 series left against the teams expected to finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Not sure the margin for error is that great for this team, but if we can get the pitching we got today consistently things could definitely get interesting.

I would throttle back getting too excited just yet but if they are able to complete the sweep of UNI tomorrow they will have put themselves in a very nice position heading down the stretch run.

We do seem to be heading in the right direction.

They say momentum in baseball/softball is only as strong as the pitcher you have on the mound. In today's Game 3 Shocker Senior Sloan Anderson gets the start after her stellar effort in yesterday's 2nd game vs UNI's Senior All-Conference Pitcher Jamie Fisher.

The confidence factor pointed out by @Hovpen appears to be in play today as the Shocks put of 6 runs on the board in the bottom of the 1st and knocked Jamie Fisher out of the game after 1 inning of work. The Shocks put up those 6 runs on 6 hits and 1 UNI error with the crowning blow a 2-out bases clearing 3-RBI double to left center by Shocker freshman Kelli Spring.

Confidence indeed! Now keep the foot on the throat Shocks.

I hope the storm doesn't cost them a win. Up 6 with the Shocks batting in the bottom of the 5th and UNI only having 6 outs to catch up it would be a shame to cancel this game out but I don't know the rules.

It's a official game with 4.5 full innings in the books. So if the remainder of the game is cancelled which is very possible the Shocks will have completed a huge sweep.

                  Storm

We live just west of 119th W & Maple. The Storm went thru here 20-30 min's ago & only lasted 15 min's. Weather radar shows it should be a short lived storm as it passes by Wilner softball stadium at WSU.

Yes, it has passed by my office now in the area of Webb Road and13th on the East side. Still looks threatening. BTW, while Wilner Auditorium is a beautiful legacy building on the SW side of the campus the Shocks play softball in Wilkins Stadium on the NE side of campus.

Shocks get a little help from Loyola who took the 3rd game of the ISUr series today.

SIU scored 6 in the 6th and hung on to win a rain shortened game at Bradley 6-4.

Gametracker now showing the game over, Shocks win 6-0 if I can consider that official.

                        Wichita State 12-3
                        Illinois State 8-4
                        Bradley 9-6
                        Northern Iowa 8-6
                        Southern Illinois 7-7
                        Missouri State 5-8
                        Loyola 6-8
                        Drake 4-8
                        Indiana State 4-9
                        Evansville 4-10

I'm assuming Drake will hold on to their 6 run lead in the 6th and we're waiting on the MSU v ISUB game, 7-4 Bares in the 4th.

I wonder what odds you could have gotten on baseball being in last and softball in 1st at this point....anyone? Bueller?

I'll go out on a very strong and sturdy limb and predict that Sloan Anderson will be the Valley Pitcher of the Week.

11 scoreless innings allowing only 5 hits against the unanimous Valley pre-season favorite.

A long way to go but as @Hovpen pointed out confidence is a huge factor in sports and right now the Lady Shocks have to be believers that they control their destiny.

Series remaining are @ Drake, the split with MSU (1 here Tuesday and 2 midweek next week @MSU) then home for SIU before ending the season at ISUR which could easily decide the MVC.

Plenty of work remains. The sweep of UNI was certainly not something I would have expected or predicted.

Not saying UNI took us for granted but we for sure won't be sneaking up on anyone else.

I am surprised that UNI did not choose to continue this game - and I have to think it was their choice. The game was suspended plenty early to get the tarp of the field, and it did not rain that much anyway. But not being at the game and not knowing if conference bylaws come into play ...
