Shocks extend their winning streak to 14 games with a 74-58 road win at Illinois State. More importantly the Shocks go to 6-0 in Valley play to set up a 1st place showdown at Indiana State on Monday.

The Shocks ruin a 2nd consecutive Super Bowl for the Redbirds as there was free admission this game which was dubbed another Red Out.

Kelsey Jacobs with 21 points and Alex Harden with 19 points lead the way for the Shocks. Kelsey was 6-11 from the field and 9-9 from the line. Alex was 9-15 from the field plus she collected 10 rebounds and passed out 5 assists. Michelle Price also kicked in a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds athough she missed all 4 of her FT attempts.

Shocks will probably need to be better on Monday when they take on preseason favorite and Valley co-leader Indiana State in Terre Haute. Let's go get 'em Ladies.

Not our best game, but Kelsey stepped up. Had 5 blocks and 9-9 at the line was great. She does a lot that doesn't show up in the stat sheet. We'll need to bring our A game against Indiana State. the bench wasn't great, but better than Ill. State.

Just a reminder that Terre Haute is in the Eastern time zone and, as a result, game time Monday is 6:05pm Wichita time.

Looks to me like this game boils down to how the Shocks big 4 match-up with and play vs Indiana State's big 4.

The tale of the tape (both teams have played 17 games):

                Alex Harden (5-11 Jr G) 16.0 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 5.4 APG, 34 Steals, 19 Blocks vs Anna Munn (5-10 Sr G) 13.8 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 2.4 APG, 24 Steals, 1 Block

                Jamillah Bonner (5-8 Jr G) 12.8 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 1.1 APG, 28 Steals, 2 Blocks vs Bilgis Abdul-Qaadir (5-4 Sr G) 13.6 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 3.8 APG, 37 Steals 1 Block

                Michelle Price (6-1 Sr F) 12.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 41 Steals, 7 Blocks vs Racheal Mahan (6-1 Jr F) 9.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 24 Steals, 6 Blocks

                Kelsey Jacobs (6-2 RJr F) 7.2 PPG, 7.2 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 35 Assists, 29 Blocks, 23 Steals vs Marina Laramie (6-2 So F) 10.5 PPG. 6.5 RPG, 6 Blocks, 10 Steals

The above stats are for all games. If the Big 4 battle results in a stalemate then the Shockers chances may come down to how well Michaela Dapprich and Alie Decker play. Both are averaging around 8 PPG and both are capable of having big scoring games if they are hitting their shots.

Overall the Shocks are averaging 73.1 PPG vs 56.4 for their opponents. In conference play they are averaging 80.8 PPG vs 59.7 for their opponents.

Overall Indiana State is averaging 64.1 PPG vs 60.7 PPG for their opponents. In conference play they are averaging 66.8 PPG vs 54.2 for their opponents.

The Shocks are shooting 45.6% from the field vs 38.4% for Indiana State
The Shocks have are 82-230 (35.7%) from three vs 78-247 (31.6%) for Indiana State.
The Shocks are 252-366 (68.9% from the line vs 249-387 (64.3%) for Illinois State.
The Shocks have a +2.1 rebounding advantage vs +2.2 for Indiana State
The Shocks average 14.2 Assist and 14.2 Turnovers vs 13.1 Assists and 16.7 Turnovers for Indiana State
The Shocks have blocked 78 shots to only 31 for Indiana State
The Shocks have 171 steals and have forced 336 turnovers vs 173 steals and 333 turnovers forced for Indiana State

On paper there is not a whole lot to chose between the teams. It may boil down to who can stay out of foul trouble and thus keep their key players in the game for the most minutes. Jamillah Bonner in particular has been getting into foul trouble and she will have her hands full with the Indiana State's quick point guard, Bilgis Abdul-Qaadir. Anna Munn is a very good player also but I think Alex Harden is the best all-around player, and perhaps the best defender, in the league and we need a statement game from Alex. No reason not to expect a pretty competitive game Monday.

                Shocker Game Notes

Sycamore Game Notes - Looks like Indiana State has declared a White-Out for this game.

With a player like Alex Harden, who is in the top 10 in 11 of 13 statistical categories in the MVC, Adams feels like WSU has what it needs against any opponent

                  Read more here: http://www.kansas.com/2014/01/26/325...#storylink=cpy

Here are Alex's statistical rankings among Valley players heading into the Indiana State game. The 1st ranking is based on all games and the 2nd ranking Valley games only. NR means not in the Top 20.

                  Scoring: 5th/2nd
                  Field Goal %: 4th/3rd
                  3-Point FG %: NR/1st
                  3-Point FGM: NR/19th
                  Free Throw %: 3rd/20th
                  Assists: 2nd/1st
                  Assist to Turnove Ratio: 1st/2nd
                  Offensive Rebounding: 17th/9th
                  Defensive Rebounding: 16th/8th
                  Total Reboundng: 15th/6th
                  Steals: 4th/4th
                  Blocked Shots: 6th/5th
                  Minutes Played: 6th/3rd

Alex, at 5-11, plays primarily at the point for the Shockers although she can easily play the 1 thru 4 positions. No doubt she can play the 5 if need be. Alex is the reigning Missouri Valley Defensive POY. She is routinely assigned to guard the opponents best perimeter scorer.

Perhaps the most exciting thing about Alex is that she is still growing as a player IMO and is still not a finished product. I don't know who deserves the credit for finding and recruiting Alex but whoever it as hit a grand slam.

I sure hope so. The sycamorevision wants to charge $35 for a 4 mo. subscription. They removed the 1 mo. option. If anyone finds a way to watch please post!

I've contacted sycamorevision as there is a place the $9.95 option still appears, but can't access it. I haven't received a response yet. Missouri State Women is on ESPN3, not the two undefeated teams.

The $10.95 option now appears and works. It is for one month. Just remember to cancel when done as it automatically renews.

Please, see my quote in a previous response. The $10.95 has returned. I emailed them. I think it was an error when it was not listed.

Based on the MVC season to the minute, I'm putting the likelihood of an undefeated conference at approximately 99.87%.
