Yeah, I had a hard time tracking the ongoing results as well.

A couple of good performances from the Lady Shocks on Friday at the Carl Knight Invitational @ Stephen F. Austin.

Emily Cook set a new personal record in the hammer throw after her second place throw measured 173-0.

Kayla Deighan not only won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, but her time of 10:47 broke her old personal best time by 27 seconds. That's a tremendous jump in her PB.

Ebeissa Nyandwi took second in the women’s 5,000-meter run.

Conditions must be pretty good down in Nacogdoches.

MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet coming up this Friday, Saturday and Sunday hosted by SIU in Carbondale.

I would expect the favorites to win will be announced in a day or two. Looking at the form charts for the Valley this is how I see it (projected score in parentheses) if the competition goes according to form (more or less) and assuming no injury issues are or come into play:

        Indiana State (155)
        Wichita State (137)
        Southern Illinois (112)
        Missouri State (104)
        Illinois State (74)
        Northern Iowa (68)
        Bradley (49)
        Drake (7)

The official pre-championship poll of the league coaches is out is pretty much in line with my post above.

The Coaches had Northern Iowa finishing ahead of Illinois State and they had Loyola, who I had failed to include, above Bradley and Drake.

The Women's Heptathlon starts at 11:00.

You can tell that Coach Rainbolt loves him some multi-athletes. While the Shocker Women don't quite dominate the number of multi-event athletes like the Shocker men do this year it is still clear that Coach Rainbolt loves a deep roster of multi-eventers.

The Shocks have 6 athletes participating in the Heptathlon. INS has 3, UNI and MSU 2, and BU has 1. ILS, SIU, LUC, and DU have none.

Looking at the Decathlon and Heptathlon combined the Shockers have 13 of the total 26 competitors. Hopefully, they all do well today and the Shocks get off to a great start in the point race.

The women's javelin throw is also an event where the Shocks hope to rack up big points. They have 8 of the top 12 throwers in this event that starts at 4:00pm. Let's hope Coach Hetzendorf has the ladies primed and ready to go. I'm confident he will.

Looks like a good result for WSU in the women's hammer. Form-wise, you would have expected ISUb to score 8 with WSU getting 4, but it ends up with Emily getting 4th place and 5 points while Mary Theisen of Indiana State scores only 6. 3 important points at the end of Sunday I bet.

Nikki Larch-Miller with a solid 100H but a HUGE number for Paige Knodle from UNI who popped a 14.00 (compared to a 15.18 earlier this season) and 978 points. Nikki has her hands full with the junior Panther.

Actually Doc, my reading of the form charts had INS 8 and WSU 3 as Emily had the 6th best throw coming into the Valley Championships. So I have it as a 4-point swing in favor of Emily and the Shocks.

In any case, for the Shocks to have a chance they may need to have a handful of performances that exceed form chart expectations. This one is a good start.

Looks like the heptathlon is going to be quite competitive.

Edit: UNI's Paige Knodle, who is leading after the 4 first day events by 52 points over Shocker Nikki Larch-Miller, is probably the heavy favorite to win at this point. She has the best Heptathlon score in the Valley this year and the first 2 events tomorrow are the Long Jump and Javelin which are both very good events for Knodle. In fact, she very well will win the open javelin as she has the best throw in the Valley this year. She probably deserve a championship after chasing the Shocks Tanya Friesen the last two years.

UNI doesn't have the depth WSU does in the multis, but man have they had some superstars over the last 7-10 years it seems.
