I think the Ladies could be a little tired given the 3-games in 3 days in Cancun, the long trip back and very little time to prepare for Grambling. Thank goodness it was Grambling. Plus Jody shortened her bench quite a bit in the Cancun games.
Also, to this point the Shocks have played 7 games in 17 days and have had only 2 home games. Over the next 33 days we have 5 games, 4 of which are at home. Should give the Ladies a chance to catch their breath a little bit and it should give ample opportunities for the Coaching staff to work with the Ladies in practice. Of course. finals are coming up also so the Ladies will have that to deal with.
Glad they have a full week between Grambling and K-State games. K-State will no doubt be 5-0 when they come to visit Koch Arena but they really have not played a particularly strong schedule with home wins over Idaho State (62-54), AR-Pine Bluff (89-55) and road wins over Tennessee State (62-47) and Charlotte (67-63). They have a home game with Mississippi Valley State (0-4) on Friday.
K-State is not a big team at all. In fact, they are pretty small by Big 12 standards. They have only 2 players at 6-0 or more (both listed at 6-1) and one of them Katya Leick apparently hasn't played this year and the other Stacey Malone has only played 27 minutes in K-State's four games to date.
K-State has had some great perimeter shooters in the past but they are only shooting 28.4% from the arc in their 4 games. The Shocks are worse shooting only 23.8% in their 7 games. However, the Shocks were 4-8 against Grambling and I think they can hit a decent percentage as long as they are very selective about who and when those shots are taken. BTW, Kelsey Jacobs showed she is capable of stepping out and knocking down a trey on occasion. Furthermore, K-State has chucked 29 trey attempts per game compared to 9 for the Shocks.
I think this is a very winnable game for the Lady Shocks if they can keep K-State's perimeter game under control and if they can find enough offense themselves. The Shocks actually have a size advantage on K-State. K-State's starting lineup will probably go 5-5 G, 5-7 G, 5-8 G, 5-11 G, 5-11 G/F and K-State really doesn't bring anyone any bigger of the bench outside of Malone who has played sparingly to date. K-State has shot only 59 free throws to 91 for their 4 opponents. It appears K-State really relies on their perimeter shooting (46.2% of their FG attemtps are treys compared to 17.5% for the Shockers) while their opponents are attacking them inside and drawing more fouls.
If Jody can get the Ladies both focused and relaxed the Shocks have a very good chance to win this game.
A good-sized, energetic Shocker crowd could go a long way in helping the Shocks win this game. Probably will be a decent amount of purple in the stands for this game.
