  • Shockers Host K-State (Tuesday Dec. 4th)

I think the Ladies could be a little tired given the 3-games in 3 days in Cancun, the long trip back and very little time to prepare for Grambling. Thank goodness it was Grambling. Plus Jody shortened her bench quite a bit in the Cancun games.

Also, to this point the Shocks have played 7 games in 17 days and have had only 2 home games. Over the next 33 days we have 5 games, 4 of which are at home. Should give the Ladies a chance to catch their breath a little bit and it should give ample opportunities for the Coaching staff to work with the Ladies in practice. Of course. finals are coming up also so the Ladies will have that to deal with.

Glad they have a full week between Grambling and K-State games. K-State will no doubt be 5-0 when they come to visit Koch Arena but they really have not played a particularly strong schedule with home wins over Idaho State (62-54), AR-Pine Bluff (89-55) and road wins over Tennessee State (62-47) and Charlotte (67-63). They have a home game with Mississippi Valley State (0-4) on Friday.

K-State is not a big team at all. In fact, they are pretty small by Big 12 standards. They have only 2 players at 6-0 or more (both listed at 6-1) and one of them Katya Leick apparently hasn't played this year and the other Stacey Malone has only played 27 minutes in K-State's four games to date.

K-State has had some great perimeter shooters in the past but they are only shooting 28.4% from the arc in their 4 games. The Shocks are worse shooting only 23.8% in their 7 games. However, the Shocks were 4-8 against Grambling and I think they can hit a decent percentage as long as they are very selective about who and when those shots are taken. BTW, Kelsey Jacobs showed she is capable of stepping out and knocking down a trey on occasion. Furthermore, K-State has chucked 29 trey attempts per game compared to 9 for the Shocks.

I think this is a very winnable game for the Lady Shocks if they can keep K-State's perimeter game under control and if they can find enough offense themselves. The Shocks actually have a size advantage on K-State. K-State's starting lineup will probably go 5-5 G, 5-7 G, 5-8 G, 5-11 G, 5-11 G/F and K-State really doesn't bring anyone any bigger of the bench outside of Malone who has played sparingly to date. K-State has shot only 59 free throws to 91 for their 4 opponents. It appears K-State really relies on their perimeter shooting (46.2% of their FG attemtps are treys compared to 17.5% for the Shockers) while their opponents are attacking them inside and drawing more fouls.

If Jody can get the Ladies both focused and relaxed the Shocks have a very good chance to win this game.

A good-sized, energetic Shocker crowd could go a long way in helping the Shocks win this game. Probably will be a decent amount of purple in the stands for this game.

    Great research 1972. I agree.

K-State was picked to finish 9th in the 10-team Big 12 this year ahead of only TCU.

Here is the pre-season write-up on K-State from the Big 12 web site:

The more I think about this K-State game the more I not only think it is winnable game, but it is a game the Shocks should win and I will be a little disappointed if they don't win this game.

K-State is indeed 5-0 after slipping by Mississippi Valley State 64-57 in Manhattan.

K-State was 9-30 from behind the arc against MVSU. Brittany Chambers was 7-11 and Haley Texada was 2-5. Making the rest of the team 0-14.

On the season Chambers is 18-42 (42.9%) and Texada is 8-19 (42.1%) from behind the arc. The rest of the team is 16-85 (18.8%).

Not too difficult to see what the game plan will be against K-State. Defensively try to control Chambers and Texada on the perimeter and offensively attack K-State on the inside where the Shocks will have a size advantage. Not sure the Shocks will turn K-State over a whole lot since they play pretty close to a 5-guard lineup. Shocks need to win the rebounding battle by clear margin.

RealTimeRPI.com is projecting a 73-69 Shocker win in this game. I'm not sure it will be that high scoring, but I think the Shocks will rally together after the tumult of last week and take it to K-State in this game and I think they will win this game.

Shocks lost in Manhattan last year 60-34 in perhaps their worst performance of the year. Time for some pay back.

Shocks have only allowed their 7 opponents an average of 52 points this year. Throw out the 72 that LSU put up in the opener at LSU and the Shocks have allowed only 48.7 points per game although they only went 3-3 in those games.

IF they can find just a modicum of offense and continue to play that kind of defense they should win a lot of ball games this year.

              No TV. There is ShockerVision.

I can guarantee you that there will be a ton of good seats available if you come out to the game. Although there is a possibility that Shocker fans will be outnumbered by Wildcat fans tonight.

I bought 100 tickets and gave them to a youth organization, so hopefully we'll have a few fans :-)

I'd love to see 2,500 Shocker fans in Koch Arena tonight. Not a lot going on this week until Friday and Saturday.

                      From today's GoShockers web site:

WICHITA - Molly O'Brien has elected to leave the Wichita State University women's basketball team, head coach Jody Adams announced today.

"I appreciate the time and effort Molly gave to Wichita State and wish her all the best in the future," Adams said.

O'Brien, a sophomore from Spokane, Mo., played in six games this year, averaging 8.7 minutes for the Shockers.

Hopefully, Alex Harden is out of the dog house for tongiht. I think she could be very effective defending K-State's leading scorer, 5-8 Sr G Brittany Chambers (19.6 PPG). Alex has the athleticism to stay with Chambers I believe and at 5-11 she has the size that might bother her also. The Shocks 5-9 SR G Bugg Jones might also be effective defending Chambers.

5-7 So G Haley Texada is K-State's second leading scorer at 13.4 PPG. Together, Chambers (Uniform #2) and Texada (Uniform #1) account for 48% of K-State's scoring year to date.

I've spent the last hour + watching on Shockervision and I want to write a long post, but I'm going to use my better judgment and go with advice that most every parent gives to their kids; If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all...
