    [8] Wichita State (16-13, 6-10) vs. [9] Temple (11-17, 6-10)
    Monday, March 6, 2023 | 1:00 PM CT | Dickies Arena
    ESPN+ | KFH 97.5 FM/1240 AM | ShockerStats.com

    SCOUTING THE OWLS
Led by first year head coach Diane Richardson, Temple enters Wednesday's matchup at 11-17 this season and 6-10 in American play. The Owls started conference play 5-4, but lost six of their last seven. Temple is led by Aleah Nelson and Tiarra East. Nelson leads the team in scoring (15.2 points) and assists (124), while East adds 11.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 47 steals. Nelson is a two-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Temple ranks at the top of the conference in free throw shooting at 73.5 percent. Wichita State and Temple split the regular season series with each team winning at home.

    LAST MEETING
Wichita State evened the regular season series with a 79-67 win over the Owls just barely over a week ago in Wichita on Feb. 25. Wichita State shot better than 50 percent from the field and held Temple to 5-of-20 from beyond the arc. Wichita State held the Owls to only eight points in the deciding fourth quarter. On Senior Day, Curtessia Dean poured in a career-high 22 points to go with 10 rebounds. Jane Asinde also finished with 22 points and 10 boards.

I like the Shockers chances in this game against a depleted Temple squad which lost 6 of their last 7 AAC games including the 67-79 loss to the Shocks in Wichita. Now if the Shockers get past Temple they get the honor of facing #1 seed South Florida.

Shocks had extended their lead to 17 at 45-28 with 5:50 to play in the 3rd quarter. Temple outscored the Shocks 21-7 through the end of the quarter to close to within 3 at 52-49.

Did we just get boat-raced in the 4th quarter? I'm hoping it was a misprint.

The season likely ends tomorrow around 2pm.

                    They play USF at noon.

Most likely but USF lost 1 AAC games this year to Houston who the Shocks played a close game with recently. I might put $50 on the Shocks with 20-1 odds.

But having to play in thus play-in round might make even a bigger lon shot for the Shocks.

The thing I liked about today's game was the Shocks got good performances from their guards.

49 points on 17-32 shooting from DJ, Shamaryah, and Ambuh.

Temple is probably happy to have this season over with especially the last month.

                              Stop. The. Game. Now.

Jane's play on both ends of the court is really good. She's at a level of which no other Shocker is capable.

it looks like the Shocks want to be patient and limit possessions, but their brains just won't let them. The instant they get sped up things get out of hand because USF is just so much more skilled.

Jane tried the new step through (which is a walk because you change pivot feet) and was knocked to the ground with no foul call.

Still they should get out of the quarter with a lead if they are patient.

Another push no call against Jane...sheesh. You just can't do that. The officiating in women's basketball is just as bad as the play often times.

15-8 Shocks at the quarter. Got to think that's going to be the high water mark of the game, if not the year. Can't see this continuing, but who knows.
