Here is a good recap of how the Shocks have done so far:

AUSTIN, Texas -- Wichita State track & field student-athletes Tomas Cotter, J'Lynn Ledesma and Natalie Morerod advanced to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships with their performances Friday in the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

National final qualifiers so far: Aliphine Tuliamuk (10K), Natalie Morerod (400m hurdles), J'Lynn Ledesma (HJ) and Tanya Friesen (pentathlon).

What remains for the Shocker ladies on Saturday:

6:30 pm: Courtney Reinke - Triple Jump

    7:20 pm: Natalie Morerod - 100m Hurdles

    8:45 pm: Aliphine Tuliamuk - 5k Run

Courtney is a long shot to advance and Natalie would probably have to PR to advance in the 100m hurdle event, although she has surprised previously this year with an unexpected performance. However, Aliphine is the #2 seed in the West in the 5K and has a very good shot of making it a double to go with her 10K victory.

As expected Courtney (Triple Jump) and Natalie (100m Hurdles) failed to qualify for the National Finals at Drake but Natalie will be there competing in the 400m Hurdles.

Also pretty much as expected Aliphine, by finishing 2nd in her 5K heat, qualified for Drake in that event in addition to the 10k which she won on Friday.

So our Shocker women moving on to Drake as National final qualifiers are: Aliphine Tuliamuk (10K and 5K), Natalie Morerod (400m hurdles), J'Lynn Ledesma (HJ) and Tanya Friesen (pentathlon). Good luck Ladies.

2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship - Drake Stadium - Des Moine, Iowa

Drake doesn't really take a back seat to many when it comes to outdoor Track & Field facilities. This would be a fun trip to make some day.

Lady Shockers are scheduled to compete as follows (times are CDT and, of course, could change if weather dictates):

        Natalie Morerod: 400m Hurdles Semi-Finals - 8:30 pm Wednesday, June 6.

Aliphine Tuliamuk - 10,000m run Finals - 8:45 pm Thursday, June 7. Perhaps the Shocks best chance at a National Championship. Aliphine's best event IMO and she is definitely a threat.

Aliphine Tuliamuk - 5,000m run Finals - 12:19 pm Saturday, June 9. I doubt that Aliphine quite has enough in the tank to pull off a double but you just never know for sure.

        J'Lynn Ledesma - High Jump Finals - 4:30 pm Friday, June 8.

Tanya Friesen - Pentathlon - Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8:
        Thursday Events:
        100m Hurdles - 1:00 pm
        High Jump - 2:00 pm
        Shot Put - 4:30 pm
        200m Dash - 6:00 pm

        Friday Events:
        Long Jump - 3:00 pm
        Javelin - 4:15 pm
        800m Run - 6:45 pm

        Good Luck Lady Shocks.

The Shockers are sending their largest contingent to the NCAAchampionships since 2003 when Wichita State sent nine student-athletes. Six of the eight Shockers who will compete in Des Moines this week are from Kansas. (3 of our 4 women who qualified and the same for the men).

WICHITA, Kan. ? Eight Wichita State track & field student-athletes will travel to Des Moines, Iowa this week for the culmination of their season at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

          Good Luck, Ladies.

Nice article by Paul Suellentrop on Aliphine in today's Eagle.

A 10K can be kind of boring but I know what I will be watch from about 8:45 pm to 9:20 pm on Thursday night.

Aliphine has a shot at becoming our 1st ever female Track national champion this week. As the article says she does not possess a big kick but she is a strong, strong runner with an Everready Bunny approach. She keeps going and going and going. At the regionals at Cessna stadium she held back for the first 4k to 5k then just ran away from the field nearly lapping the field at the finish. She won't dominate like that at the Nationals against the Top 24 runners be she is capable of winning this race. Go get 'em Aliphine!

Another very nice article by Paul Suellentrop on the Shocker contingent heading to Nationals.

One great thing about the 4 ladies representing the Shocks is that none are seniors. Aliphine and Tanya are Juniors and J'Lynn and Natalie are sophomores.

I liked Natalie's quote at the end of the article:

I’m not that surprised considering the coaches that we have and the teammates I have. It’s no surprise we’re Wheatshockers, and they’re harvesting the crap out of us right now.

See current schedule for Shocker ladies above in post #18.

Sophomore Natalie Morerod up 1st Wednesday night at 8:30 pm in the 400m hurdles semi-finals.

Natalie has kind of exploded out of nowhere this year to become a national level 400m hurdler. This will be a great experience for her regardless of how she fares this year. Just relax and have fun Natalie.

The meet will be streamed live Wednesday on NCAA.com and then ESPN3.com for Thursday/Friday. I believe Saturday will be both ESPN3.com and ESPNU.

                  Good luck Shockers!!!

I think this is where you can watch Natalie at around 8:30 tonight in the 400m hurdles if you're interested:

Natalie finished 5th in her heat at 58.35 and unfortunately will not be moving on. She was well off her best time of 57.48 she ran in winning the MVC Championship. Still she had a great year and the experience of being in the NCAA finals will hopefully pay benefits in the future.

Looking forward to seeing how Natalie can progress in her career.

I believe Natalie was seeded 15th going in and she finished 14th so she performed about as expected in that regard, although I think she may have been a little disappointed in her time. Still I thing the experience will prove valuable.

DES MOINES, Iowa ? Wichita State sophomore Natalie Morerod finished fifth in her heat and 14th overall in the women's 400-meter hurdle semifinals Wednesday night at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

SIU monster thrower Sr. Jeneva McCall wins the women's hammer throw with a toss of 225'3" edging out fellow MVC competitor Jr. Brittany Smith of Illinois State who had a throw of 224'7" for second.

Maybe Brittany will get her national championship next year now that Jeneva is finishing her collegiate career.

Tanya is off to kind of a slow start in the Heptathlon. She finished last of the 24 competitors in the 100m hurdles with a 14.35 run. About 0.31 seconds off her time at the MVC Championships.

She came back a little finishing in a tie for 11th in the high jump at 5'5.25".

She finished 22nd in the shot put and was unable to break 30'. She threw 33'10" at the MVC Championship.

After 3 events she sits in 23rd place.

Tonya finishes 20th in the 200m dash and still sits in 23rd place at the end of the 1st day (4 events) with the long jump (Tanya's best event), javelin and 800m run tomorrow.

as a side note to today's results, The MVC has already crowned TWO national champions today. Jeneva McCall (SIU) and Brittany Smith (ILS) went 1-2 in the women's Hammer throw, while Tim Glover (ILS) won his 2nd straight javelin title for the Redbirds.

That makes EIGHT straight NCAA championship meets (Indoor/Outdoor) that a least one MVC athlete has won a national title. When it comes to track and field the MVC is arguably the best non BCS track conference out there.

Having said that, Go Aliphine! Let's make it 3 champions today!
