The Shockers open their 2022 AAC campaign with a weekend series against Tulsa. The Shocks will host the Golden Hurricane with games on Friday at 6 pm, Saturday at 2 pm, and Sunday at noon.
With only seven of the schools playing softball, the Shockers had the conference bye last weekend. Tulsa split their series with Houston, 1-1-1. They won 9-1(5), lost 11-13, and tied 2-2(9) on Sunday when the drop-dead travel time was reached. The most interesting result this past weekend was UCF sweeping USF, beating Corrick by scores of 5-2 and 3-0 among the three games. USF still cannot hit. East Carolina took two of three games against Memphis in the other series last weekend.
UCF are now 22/20 in the polls with USF RV in both.
Tulsa have an overall record of 12-19-1. In games of interest, they lost to Minnesota, are 0-2 against Nebraska, 2-0 against Kansas, and 0-1 against Oklahoma State.
The only OPS above .900 for Tulsa are Celeste Wood (.936) and Haley Morgan (.930). Samantha Pochop (ERA of 2.85 and WHIP of 1.07) has half of the starts. Other pitchers in ERA order are Kylee Nash, Sara Llamas-Howell, and Makenzie Brown who have roughly the same amount of innings. Pochop completes almost all of her starts. None of the other three come close.
The Shocker offense continues to be led by Sydney (1.572 and eight homers), Addison (1.352 and thirteen homers), and Lauren (1.201 and seven homers). Neleigh and Zoe also have OPS north of 1.000.
Erin (5.02 and 1.72) and Caitlin (5.18 and 1.78) have roughly twice as many innings as anyone else on the staff. Not likely, but perhaps Alison or Kenzie will get a start.
