Where did that come from and where has that been? Nice.

The hitters are there, they just need to relax and get it done.

Melanie Jaegers gets the big hit in the inning - a two-out, two-run double to give the Shocks a 5-4 lead. Six of our eight hits are in the sixth. Laura Vickers and Sydney Steuver each have two hits in the game. Sloan gives up eight hits, but only one walk.

Hopefully, that will infuse some confidence and get the offense jump started. We are going to have to score some runs to put up wins with our pitch-to-contact pitching staff or perhaps I should call it our finesse pitching staff.

Just win the games like this that we "should" win and steal a game or two along the way and it will be a good season.

                          Shockers 4-1 South Dakota State

Timely hitting in the top of the seventh stretched a one-run lead to four and the Shocks won, allowing a run in the bottom of the seventh. KA pitched the complete game for her first win of the season, giving up five hits and one walk with five strikeouts. The Shocks scored a run in the fifth on a delayed steal of home with runners at first and third. In the seventh, Rachel was HBP with two outs and then scored on a single by Sydney and error by the CF. Brittney then capped the scoring for the Shocks with a two-run homer. The Shocks had five hits with Sydney having two.

Tomorrow the Shockers take on Northern Illinois and North Texas.

The other MVC scores during the day:

                          Creighton 5-4(8) Northern Illinois
                          South Dakota State 1-8 Creighton
Missouri State 7-2 Sam Houston State
                          North Texas 5-0 Missouri State

Nice to see Katie bounce back from a tough weekend last week. Only one free pass tonight. Big improvement. I think @flyingMoose: wondered last weekend if maybe Katie was getting squeezed by the home plate ump. Only 1 error in each game helped also. Shocks need to make their opponents earn everything they get.

                            Nice job Ladies.

Any word if the Sunday schedule has changed? The original schedule had everyone playing a team on Sunday they had previously played on Friday. But because of the Valley teams preferring not to play each other and because of travel considerations, the Sunday schedule may have to stand.
