The Shocker indoor season officially gets underway tomorrow night (Wednesday) and Thursday at the Heskett Center. Goshockers.com has put together a terrific "meet central" page that has all kinds of info including a link to live streaming video of the meet. Here is the link: http://www.goshockers.com/ViewArticl...CLID=205357214

Last year's women's team was dominant winning both the MVC indoor and outdoor titles. This year's team looks to be very good as well. Interesting in the heat sheets former all-American Tonya Nero and current all-American Aliphine Tuliamuk will compete against each other in the mile run. Should be exciting!

Wednesday night admission is free, Thursday is only $3.

The Lady Shocker T&F team (258 pts) easily won their season opener against Emporia St (152), Fort Hays (147), Oral Roberts (113), and Butler Co. (15).

Some highlights from the Heskett Center ...
---Senior Audacia Moore won 3 events easily (60m, 400m, triple jump). She looks in good form like always.
---Junior Aliphine Tuliamuk placed 3rd in the mile (4:53) BUT this was a superb race with former Shocker Tonya Nero winning. Good "speed work" for Aliphine.
---Junior Tanya Friesen won the 60 hurdles and long jump in solid performances.
---Senior Danielle Walker ran very well in winning the 800m (2:13) by 6 seconds.
---Junior Jennifer Taylor won the 1000m (2:59), along with Walker should be a tough 1-2 punch in the 800m.
---Senior Sarah Gilbert won the high jump with a nice clearance of 5-6.5.
---Junior Shamoya Pruitt won the 200m (25.32) and placed 3rd in the 60m.
---Shocks went 1-2-4 in the 400m but lost the 4x4 to Oral Roberts in an exciting finish.
---Shocks go 1-2-4-5 in the triple jump.

The Lady Shocks finished 4th at Nebraska this past weekend. They were beat by nationally ranked Nebraska, Iowa, and Houston while defeating Air Force. Audacia Moore wasn't able to compete due to personal reasons so the scoreboard wasn't as good as it would have been with her. Nevertheless there were some good performances ...

---Aliphine Tuliamuk ran a 9:25 3k, puts her #11 on the NCAA list. She's better in the 5k but I know she is trying to make the NCAA's in both the 3k and 5k this year.
---Shamoya Pruitt had a solid 60m running 7.65, just off her lifetime PR. She will be a big factor in the MVC meet.
---Jen Taylor (800m 2:16) and Danielle Walker (Mile 5:00) put up solid season debuts in the middle distances.
---Freshman Cara Detmer vaulted 11-9 to move her into contention on the MVC list. With defending champion Cassie Craig redshirting the Shocks need Detmer to step up.
---Kiara Giles and Kristina Taylor both run 57 in the 400, good runs for them this early in the season.
---Laura Burke ran 17:59 in the 5k, a huge personal best.

This weekend will be light for WSU as they will send a few athletes to KU Friday. Also Aliphine Tuliamuk will travel to Boston to run in a big-time 3000m race.

Hey folks, Aliphine Tuliamuk turned in a truly amazing performance tonight in Boston. She runs 9:11.49 for the 3000m. #2 time in the NCAA this year, will surely get her to the NCAA Indoor Championships and broke Desiraye Osburn's school record by 6 seconds. Some of you may have notice Osburn was inducted into the WSU Hall of Fame last week. Way to go Aliphine!!!

And by the way Aliphine's best event is the 5000m! :)

Here's video of the amazing race, Aliphine definitely "made" the race with about 4 laps to go. Super exciting and a great watch! http://www.flotrack.org/coverage/247...s-Tuliamuk-908

Also an interview with AT after the race, she is a great representative for WSU: http://www.flotrack.org/coverage/247...er-Invite-2012

Aliphine, who is a Junior, also broke a 28-year old MVC record in this race by about 5.5 seconds.

The Shocks will be hosting a great track meet this weekend at the Heskett Center. Teams coming will be Missouri State, Oklahoma, UT-Arlington, Sam Houston St, UMKC, Nebraska-Omaha, and Doane College. It's a 2-day meet with most of the running events on Saturday afternoon. It would be a great way to spend your Saturday before heading to the Shocker basketball game! This will be your last chance during the indoor season to see stars like Aliphine Tuliamuk and Audacia Moore compete at home!

Here is the info for the meet ... http://www.goshockers.com/ViewArticl...CLID=205318453

The Shockers had a very nice meet easily defeating 6 other schools (5 division I schools) at the Varsity Apartments Invite this past weekend at the Heskett Center. The Shocks scored 134 points to outlast Sam Houston (102), UT-Arlington (82), Missouri St (75) and others.

---Audacia Moore had another great meet, winning the 60m (7.45) and 200m (24.62).
---Aliphine Tuliamuk came down in distance to win the mile (4:55).
---The 4x4 relay ran by far their best race of the year to place 2nd to Missouri State in a close race (3:47.74 - 3:48.53).
---Tanya Friesen led a 1-2-3-4-5 finish in the Pentathlon with a PR of 3574.

The competition will get much stronger this week as WSU travels to Northeast Ohio to take part in the SPIRE Collegiate Invitational with several of the top teams in the NCAA. This will be the final major competition until the MVC Indoor Championships in just over 2 weeks. It looks like Coach Rainbolt has put together another strong team that will challenge for a title!
