Topham ran her first two splits in 1:24.58 and 1:24.97, before falling back running her next three splits in 1:25+. The 2019 American Athletic Conference champion then turned on the jets running her next split in 1:24.85, before clocking her last split in a blazing time of 1:17.24, the fastest final split of any other competitor.

With the advancement to Saturday's final she has secured All-American honors and will battle to finish in the top-8 to claim first team All-American honors.

Rebekah at the starting line. And they're off.

Rebekah falls to the back. Temp is 98 degrees. Track surface above 115.

Rebekah really falling back. Either the heat is too much for her or she is being very smart.

Kind of irritated with the coverge. They only showed about 3 laps of the steeplechase. the 1st lap and last couple of laps. In between they showed replays of the first 6 evetns of the heptathlon. All I saw was Rebekah fall way behind early.

Unfortunatley, I did not see Rebekah finish. So waiting for the official results on the love results.

Looks like Rebekah rallied a bit to finish at 9:57.8 which gave her an 8th place finish and Rebekah earns 1st Team All-American honors.

          Congratulaitons Rebekah.

I think a strong argument can be made that Rebekah is the Wichita State Shocker Athlete of the Year in 2018-19. She finished 3rd in the AAC Cross Country Championships in the spring despite not being 100% at that time as the Shockers won a very competitive AAC Cross Country Championship in with a great team effort.. At the AAC Indoor Championships she lead the Shockers to a win in the distance medley realy with an unbelievable come from way behind win and won both the 1,500m race and the 3,000m race to lead the Shocks to a 3rd place finish and was named the Women's Most Valuable Indoor Perfourmance award. In the AAC Outdoor Championships Rebekah again earned the Women;s Most Valuable Performance award winning the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing 2nd in teh 1,500m race (that shed had to run a prelim to qualify for) and fighting off fatique to finish 5th in the 5,000m run in leading the Shockers to the Championship.

Today Rebekah tops off a fantastic junior season finishing 8th in the nation and earning 1st team All-American honors in the steeplechase in 100 degree heat.

          She gets my vote.

Going to hard to top this year in her senior year but if she can stay healthy who know what she will be able to accomplish.

That officially brings the 2018-19 athletic year to a close.

The Shocks won 1 AAC Champoinship (Volleyball) last. They won 2 AAC Championships this year (Women's XC and Women's Outdoor Track and Field). Let's keep it going and and make it 3 next year. Need to get the guys one.
