I hope it will be available. It was unbelievable. I was worried that Rebekah would not have anything left on the final lap but she looked like she was shot out of a cannon as she easily outdistance her competitors including favored Temple and Hannah Miller of SMU. Credit to Hannah Miller for running that 1600m anchor leg so shortly after the finish of a very tough 5000m race agaisnt Winnie. Looked like she was on a mission and was going to win until Rebekah came out of nowhere.

Here is the link to the replay of the full 6 hours of video coverage today. You may need to be signed on to a facebook account to get the replay.

The women's DMR starts right around the 5 hour mark and takes about 11.5 minutes.

I have re-watched the race and still can't believe what Rebekah did against pretty high quality competition. Just a spectacular effort. Would love to know what Rebekah's time on her 1600 leg was.

As I watched the first 3 legs of the race, I thought you were pulling my leg and put a pic in your post from another meet.

OMG!!! I thought WSU was dead and buried in that race. So far behind and all the accolades going to Temple and SMU as to which one would win throughout most the race. Then, just as the announcer said, "as if shot out of a cannon", Rebekah made the other distance runners on that last leg look like they didn't belong on the same track! That was pretty unbelievable. Thanks for posting it.

I know what you mean. I was almost thinking that Rebekah somehow pulled a Rosie Ruiz in the 1980 Boston Marathon thing and somehow had jumped into the race with only two laps to go from off the track. She looked like a fresh 400m runner those last two laps. Not like a runner who was handed a 100m deficit or whatever it was and had already run a strong mile race a few hours earlier. Rebekah still has a ways to go in her career but that race may make her eventual election to the Shocker Hall of Fame a done deal. I'm a little concerned that it might steal some thunder for her race on the mile final on Saturday but at the end of the race she looked fresh as the other top finishers collapsed to the track after crossing the finish line.

I'm not sure there has been any other athlete more impacted by the Shockers joining the AAC than SMU's Hannah Miller but she has handled things with great class and she sure hasn't just thrown in the towel.

It's a shame so few Shocker fans will even see it. What kind of heart and determination must Rebekah have to even attempt such a comeback. I think she was just trying to scratch and claw to pass as many runners as she could just to eek out a few more points for her team. That's about as animated I have ever seen Rebekah get and it was just for a fleeting moment at the end of the race. Glad they captured that.

        Event Finals Results - Saturday

400m Dash - Shocker Freshman Tianna Holmes ran a PR of 55.33 to finish 6th and contribute 3 points to the Shocker kitty.

Mile Run - Shocker Jr. Rebekah Topham bounces back from her historic come-from-way-behind anchor leg in winning the DMR Friday evening to pull another win in the mile with a time of 4:49.60 to chip in 10 more points to the Shocker cause. Rebekah is not done. She will be running in the 3k at around 1:40 pm.

High Jump - Shocker true freshman Sydney Sapp did not have her best jump at 5-8 but she did finish in a 3rd place tie good for 5.5 points.

Triple Jump - Shocker true freshman Amiya Amona finished 7th in with a slightly sub par jump for her of 39-4.5 inches but she picks does pick up 2 points and she is just getting her career started. Really good experience for bher Amiya and Sydney.

800m Run: Shocker R-Fr Yazmine Wright who ran the 1,200m leg in last nights DMR finished 6th with a new PR of 2:11.02 good fro 3 points.

Shot Put: Shocker Sr. Kesley Slawson with a solid put of 51-5.5, just short of her PR finishes 3rd to pick up All-Conference honors and 6 points and So. Amanda Kakoulias was also just shy of her PR put performed 1 spot better than her seed with a 7th place finish worth 2 points.

3,000m Run: Winnie K up near the front. Rebekah running at the back of the pack. Possible the Rebekah doesn't have much left in the tank but we will see. Nevermind, Rebekah moves up into the top 5. Both Winnie and Hannah are stalking SMU's Hannah Miller. Where have we seen this movie before. Hannah Miller with a great effort leads most of the way. Rebekah took the lead with about 500m to go but Hannah regained the lead until the final stretch when Rebekah outkicked her to the finish line in a real battle. Winny could not quite keep up (she doesn't do was well in these short races) and finishes 3rd, But the Shocks will take the 16 points. Cincinnati did not score in this event.

4x400 Relay: Shocks finish 4th with their best time of this year at 3:42.63 good for 5 points. Cincy finished 6th to score 3 points.

          Final Scores:

          Houston - 98
          Cincinnati - 94.5
          Wichita State - 84
          SMU - 78
          UConn - 59
          UCF - 54
          ECU - 43
          Memphis - 36.5
          Tulane - 35
          Temple - 31.5
          Tulsa - 24
          USF - 23.5

Impressive performance by the Lady Shocks and especially by Jr. Rebekah Topham. IMHO this is a more impressive performance than any of their many MVC Championships. The track & field competition in the AAC is that good.

Here are the AAC Women's Indoor highlights for Day 1 including the tail end of Winny's win in the 5k and the tail end of Rebekah's amazing final leg of the DMR. However, to really appreciate what Rebekah did in the DMR you need to view the entire race.

Here are the AAC Women's Indoor highlights for Day 2 including the tail end of Rebekah's win in the mile finals and the tail end of her 3k win in a battle with SMU's Hannah Miller.

When combined with Winny's 5k and 10k wins over SMU's Hannah Miller in last year's AAC Outdoor Championship with these highlights it becomes quite clear why I say Hannah has been impacted more than any other AAC athlete by the admission of WSU into the AAC.

Shockers Host Invitational to Open Outdoor Season

The Shockers host the first of its four outdoor meets at Cessna Stadium. The Herm Wilson Invitational presented by Beynon Sports Surfaces will be live streamed starting Friday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 23 beginning at 12:00 p.m. Admission to the event is free.

Often this early season events hosted by the Shockers attract mostly Non-D-1 and Juco competition. However, this meet is almost a quadrangular between the Shocks, Nebraska, Missouri and UMKC. There are some D-II athletes in the decathlon and the heptathlon but otherwise it is mostly athletes from the 4 D-1 schools mentioned. Not sure any of the teams will be going all out but the Shockers will have a pretty good representation of some of their best athletes.

A few worthy of mentioning include Paula Garcia and Taniyah McMillian in the 200m dash, Tianna Holmes in the 400m dash, Rebekah Topham, the reigning AAC Indoor Championship women's MVP, in the 1,500m run, freshman Sidney Sapp in the high jump, freshman Amiya Amona in the long jump and triple jump, Kelsey Slawson in the shot put and Carlea Miles in the javelin.

Of particular note is the match race in the 3,000m run between former Shocker star, Tonya Nero (running for the Shocker Track Club) and current Shocker long distance star, sophomore Winny Koskei. At this point they are the only 2 entrants. That should be an interesting race.

Biggest negative is that they may be dodging rain drops on Saturday.

Winny Koskei continues making her mark in the Shocker track record book setting a new school record in the 3,000m run with a time of 9:40.68 breaking the 31 year old record of 9:46.90 set by Kathryn Evans in 1988. Winny previously had the 9th best time in WSU history at 9:57.04 as she continues to improve at a rapid pace. Winny was probably helped by running with and against former Shocker Tonya who ran a 9:44.48 running for the Shocker Track Club.

Rebekah Tophan opened her outdoor season winning the 1.500m run with a time of 4:30.45 about 7.5 seconds off of her PR. Perhaps more impressively was that Shocker redshirt freshman Yazmine Wright, out of Hutchinson, finished 2nd at 4:34.00 beating her previous best time by 16 seconds.

The Shocks are also sending a contingent of 13 women to the Texas Relays. The Longhorn Network will broadcast the meet (some on a tape delayed basis).

Carlea Miles will have her hands full throwing in "Section A" of the women's javelin. In a competition that features 13 throwers, five are ranked in the top-15 of the nation, including No. 4 Gabrielle Kearney of Oklahoma and No. 5 Madalaine Stulce of Texas A&M.

The Shocker women's 4x100m squad of Raianna Maples, Paula Garcia, Jacque Darby and Taniyah McMillian recorded the eighth fastest time in Shocker history of 45.71 on March 23. The group will enter the event that features 57 teams, including Houston who has posted the 15th fastest time in the nation clocking in at 44.77.

In addition, the Shocks are also sending a contingent of 29 men to the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State University in San Marcos, 30 miles south of Austin.
