USF is at #2 Florida v Ohio State.

Tulsa is at #4 Oklahoma v Missouri (whose record is 28-27. :) )

Houston is at #11 LSU v Louisiana.

All four of the games are at various times on Friday.

The four teams from the AAC bests the two teams from the ACC. (See another thread about this speculation.)

I think the Shocks received a pretty decent assignment. Hard to argue that they don't belong in this regional since the own a win over Arkansas and 2 wins over Oklahoma State.

I suppose the old adage that it's tough to beat a team 3 times in a season may come into play but at the very least the Shockers should not be awed by the competition they will face.

        Good luck Ladies!

Thrilled we got a bid. Thrilled.

But am I reading this right? All 13 SEC schools make it for the 2nd year in a row? Seriously? 14 of the 16 hosts are SEC or PAC12 schools. Seriously?

The women's sports are generally playing with stacked decks, much more so than men's. Unfortunately, it's that kind of stuff that stunts the growth of the sports.

Congrats to Kristi and her staff and the team. This was supposed to be a rebuilding season, and they moved into a better conference and succeeded, bigly. Well done ladies!

Ironically, the key player acquisition in the off-season was a transfer from Northern Iowa.

The "watch party" was at the airport on their way home. At the Ike?

I actually haven't been at the new Ike but I think this may have been in an airport enroute back from Tampa. Not sure this was in Tampa or perhaps at an intermediate stop/flight change on the way back.

I say this because a Souithwest flight attendant took a photo of the ladies on a plane enroute back to Wichita after they found out they had made the NCAA Tournament.

St. Louis airport - as the Southwest Tweet suggests.

I could not quite make out what Mackenzie Wright said to Bailey Lange right at the end of the video. Sounded like it might have been "Thanks to You!"ea

Great to see the young ladies so excited. I'm sure they were on pins and needles waiting to see if there name would be called.

Sure looks like it. Very happy for these young ladies. They deserved the bid.

Because of geographical considerations, you could predict who was going where as soon as the host teams came up. Because of a higher RPI, Tulsa was going to #4 Oklahoma, not #13 Arkansas. LSU? That's Houston. Arkansas? The Shockers, not Tulsa.

Not sure if the end-of-regular-season RPIs are published today.

This is the first time the Hogs have ever hosted in softball. Courtney Deifel has really turned the program around in her third season. We have had a bad to mediocre program most years.

The RPIs for the AAC teams are:

                        Shockers - 35
                        Houston - 39
                        USF - 43
                        Tulsa - 47 (auto-bid)

From a quick scan of the RPIs, it appear that Wisconsin at 50 is the highest RPI to make the Tournament. Others with better RPIs not making the Tournament are Pitt at 48 (they lost their conference tournament and the auto-bid by a score of 5-4 to a two-out, three-run walk-off), Nebraska at 45, and Louisville at 44. Completeness of that list is not guaranteed.

The RPIs of other AAC teams are:

                        UCF - 63
                        Memphis - 79
                        ECU - 95
                        UConn - 137

The Shockers are at the Fayetteville Regional along with Oklahoma State and DePaul.

They face Oklahoma State at 130pm on Friday. The telecast is on ESPNU - not part of my package. The second game of the day between Arkansas and DePaul is scheduled for 4pm and is on the SEC Network.

The statistics summaries below are for conference only. Since there is not a common pool of opponents no matter which route you take, I chose to use stats from conference reflecting later in the season. The toughest conference represented is the SEC followed by the Big 12, the AAC and the Big East. Handicap the numbers accordingly.

The Cowgirls of Oklahoma State were 12-6 in the Big 12 and 2-1 in the conference tournament. (The Big 12 used a funky pool system.) OSU are RV T31 (with Tulsa) in the latest coaches's poll. They are led on offense by Vanessa Shippy with an OPS of 1.073. She is followed by Madi Sue Montgomery (1.061 and four homers) and Taylor Lynch (1.022). Nobody else has an OPS above .800.

Samantha Clakley has over half of the innings in conference. Her ERA is 2.24 with a WHIP of 1.37. Emmie Robertson has the next most starts with numbers of 2.25 and 1.29. Logan Simunek, used mostly in relief, has a few more innings than Robertson. Her ERA is 2.76 with a WHIP of 1.06.

The Shockers were 12-9 in the AAC and 0-1 in the conference tournament. Mackenzie, the AAC Player of the Year, has an OPS of 1.240. She is followed by Ryleigh (1.035 and five homers), Bailey (.977), Laurie (.956 and seven homers) and Madison (.933).

Bailey is the staff at this point. Her ERA is 2.72 with a WHIP of 1.39. Caitlin is 4.50 and 1.46 with BaileyK in relief with numbers of 1.91 and 1.32.

#15 Arkansas finished with a 12-12 record in the SEC and were 2-1 in the conference tournament. The Razorback offense is led by Hannah McEwen with an OPS of .827, Katie Warrick (.825) and Kayla Green (.809). Here is where handicapping the numbers for conference comes in.

Mary Haff and Autumn Storms split the conference starts almost equally. Haff has an ERA of 2.47 with an WHIP of 1.06. The numbers for Storms are 3.46 and 1.48.

DePaul had a record of 15-3 in the Big East and 2-0 in the conference tournament, defeating Creighton in the finals. The offense is led by Kate Polucha with an OPS of 1.158, Megan Leyva (1.124 and five homers), Jessica Cothern (1.074) and Morgan Greenwood (1.021). These are a bit gaudy, but again, handicap for the conference.

The starts for the Blue Demons are virtually equally shared among three pitchers. Pat Moore has an ERA of 1.80 and a WHIP of 1.17, Missy Zoch is 1.91 and 1.41 and Kennedy Garcia is 2.19 and 1.07.
