Shocks 14-1(5) Creighton
Katie starts this one.
The game-winning trio from yesterday start off the scoring for the Shocks in the second. Sammie walks, Rachel lays down a sac bunt and Erin singles Sammie home. Brittney follows with a homer, and the Shocks lead 3-0 after two.
In the third, Sammie has an inside-the-park homer (outfielders ran together? something else?) with Hayley aboard on a fielder's choice. The lead is now 5-0 after three.
Creighton brings in another pitcher to start the fourth. And Jamie goes back-to-back (well, kinda). She hits another!! grand slam, following hers of yesterday, for a 9-0 lead. Is the MVC Offensive Player of the Week in doubt? After a walk to Gert, we see the Jay's third pitcher of the day. Not to be greedy, but can we complete a run-rule?
Creighton gets one back in the bottom of the fourth on three singles, one a bunt.
In the Shocker fifth, two runs score on a Creighton error after Rachel, Erin and Danika load the bases on a walk and two singles. The prolonged inning allows Gert to hit a three-run blast for a 14-1 lead.
Katie finishes for a complete-game win, yielding five hits on the day.
A great weekend for the ladies!!

Answers for the Inquiring Minds Want to Know Department:
This is the first Shocker sweep of Creighton since 2003.
Omaha, Neb. - The Wichita State Shockers blasted the Creighton Blue Jays, 14-1 on Sunday afternoon to sweep the three-game series. The Shockers improved to 13-28, 6-8 with the victory and the Bluejays dropped to 18-21, 6-6 with the defeat. The Shockers connected for four home runs, including a grand slam and an inside-the-park home run in the run-rule victory. Katie Armagost improved to 5-10 with the win for the Shockers, she scattered three hits and struck out one, tossing 60 pitches in the five-inning complete game. Check back later today for a full game recap.
Sammie's inside-parker resulted from the right and center fielders colliding and the ball caroming off a fielder's glove into a vacant center field.
And despite the statement in the article, Katie gave up five hits, not three - a very acceptable performance nonetheless.

From the article linked to by flyingMoose from the Creghton web site:
The game marked the first time Creighton had allowed at least 10 runs in a Missouri Valley Conference game since April 9, 2002, when the Bluejays defeated Drake 13-12. The Jays had not allowed 14 runs in an MVC game since a 15-9 loss at Southern Illinois on April 27, 1996 and had never lost an MVC game by more than 10 runs.
Not sure what it means in the Big Picture, maybe little or nothing, but the Lady Shocks have already finished against the Top 3 teams in the league and if this weekend's performance can build some confidence they can do so damage with their remaining schedule. A top 5 league finish is no out of the question.
MSU at 8-6 in MVC play is the only above 0.500 team remaining on the Shocks conference schedule and MSU has only played 1 of the top 3 losing all 3 games to ILS in Normal. They still have Drake and SIU on their schedule.
UNI at 7-8 currently sits in 5th place one-half game ahead of the Shockers. UNI, like the Shocks, has already played the Top 3.
The Shocks also play Evansville (9-33, 3-12) at home and Bradley (8-34, 1-13) at home.
The key series will be vs MSU and UNI. If they can take 2 of 3 in each of these series and take care of business against Evansville and Bradley they could finish as high as 4th or 5th in the league believe it or not.
