The Shockers will open up their outdoor season this week with a few athletes going to 2 different meets. Although it may seem low-key in nature there is one VERY significant race for 2 Lady Shocks.
Indoor 5k all-Americans Aliphine Tuliamuk and Tonya Nero will race the 10k at Stanford Friday night around 11pm Central Time. This is the meet last year that Nero ran a blazing race in the mid 33 minute range and both her and Aliphine appear to be much better than that this year. Not sure too many people realize how incredible a couple of 32 minute 10k's would be but it would be AMAZING! You can watch the race live on Flotrack.com Friday night. I'm sure they will be in the fast heat with many professional runners and all the top collegians.
There will also be a few other Lady Shocks at Stanford but I'm not 100% sure who. Also the multi-eventers will open up their season with a heptathlon at Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas on Thursday and Friday.
The rest of the team will open up at home the following Saturday, April 2, in a scored meet against Big 12 champs Nebraska and UNI at Cessna Stadium. What a great meet to start off the outdoor season!
Good luck to the Lady Shockers this week, hopefully it will be as successful an outdoor season as it was indoor!!!
