Meaghan Boston strikes out to end the game. The Shocker rally comes up short, 7-5 final.

Shocks did get the tying runs on base in the 7th, but coming back from 6 down is a tall order.

At least they showed some fight and didn't just thrown in the towel. Maybe that will give them a little confidence and momentum going into the next few games.

The good old saying...too little too late.

It was good to see the freshman from Andale and sophomore Sammie Shook step up with some big hits. Thought Meghan Boston could at least get a hit and continue. Errors cost this game. When this happens, I feel sorry for the pitchers. Hope we can continue hitting into the next game vs. Northern Illinois.

The Shocks pick up their first hit of the game in the top of the 4th and Gametracker seems to be frozen. 2-0 NIU.

Perhaps a new record for the most consecutive 2-strike pitches fouled off.

                  ;-)

Headlines on goShockers.com seem to indicate we lost the game to Northern Illinois also, although no details at this point.

In Northern Illinois' defense they did play pretty decent competition last week in going 0-5.

Shocks really struggling even against so-so competition. It was hoped that our relatively soft early schedule would allow the team to build some confidence. Unfortunately, the reverse may be happening.

In addition to KK being a better quality pitcher than anyone on the current staff, she had more strikeouts per inning. This is a 3-4 Ks per game staff whereas KK was good for 8 per game. Thus, more balls put in play, more of them hard-hit, puts pressure on a leaky defense. Not good.

Katie and Sloan pitched good enough to win against NIU allowing 2 earned runs. The 1 unearned run scored on a 2-out error by Sammie at shortstop.

Unfortunately, the Shocks only managed 3 hits and 2 of those were from Kierston Dixon out of the lead-off spot.

Generally, you have to have some tremendous pitching to win when your team fails to score.

U can talk to Jessica Hoppock about that one, she lost a ton of 1-0 and 2-1 games at OSU and she was a D-1 pitcher.

Texas Tech hammered Northern Illinois 16-3 in a five inning game.

St. John's gave Texas Tech a challenge but fell to the Red Raiders 5-3.
