Sometimes coaches get stuck in the mode of they are a man coach or a zone coach. The bottom line is both defenses use man and zone principals. In a zone you play man within your zone and in man you help on defense when your man gets beat. I say use what works to win. The key is to find the hot hand and zero in on them and stop them.

In my playing days, and granted that has been a long time ago, we were most successful when we played multiple defenses. We rotated in and out of the various presses, traps and half-courts looks pretty much constantly.

If you have the dominat athletes/players you can simply play man and overpower your opponent. We did not have that.

I would think doing something like this would be particularly effective in the women's game with the 30 second shot clock. If you can cause confusion, delay, caution or hesitation with the 30 second clock you should have an advantage. Of course, regardless what you do if you don't execute it wll it won't matter.

Perhaps you're better off just sticking with one or two things and trying to do it really well. That seems to be the prevalent thought with today's coaches.

I thought we might be looking at a blowout when ILS went into the double bonus with 7 minutes remaining. The Ladies hung in there pretty well although they were helped immensely by the Redbirds 5-14 performance from the line after getting to the double bonus (and they had to make their final 3 to get to that).

I heard the pregame show and there were no details about her injury. Kelsey made the trip and will not play the rest of the year. Perhaps Morgan needed to stay home so trainers could work on the injury.

The Indiana State game tomorrow could have very significant ramifications as far as MVC Tournament seedings and a possible play-in game goes.

Kelsey is out for the season, may get her season back and once healthy, will help the the team. I heard Morgan is out with a concussion. I don't know when she will be back.

Illinois State handles Missouri State pretty easily 78-59 in Normal.
