    Shocks Travel to MSU This Weekend - Wichita State Athletics

    The Wichita State volleyball team travels to Springfield, Mo, on Fri., Sept. 25 to face Missouri State (9-4, 2-0). The No. 20 Shockers (11-1, 2-0) play the Bears at 7 p.m.


    The Wichita State volleyball team travels to Springfield, Mo, on Fri., Sept. 25 to face Missouri State (9-4, 2-0). The No. 20 Shockers (11-1, 2-0) play the Bears at 7 p.m.

    The match will be broadcast on KEYN 103.7 FM with Mike Kennedy calling the action.

    Scouting Missouri State
    The Bears are 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference and are coming off of wins over Illinois State and Indiana State over the weekend. Wins this seaosn have come against San Francisco, UC Davis, Memphis, Mississippi State, Stephen F. Austin, Eastern Kentucky, Delaware, Illinois State and Indiana State. Losses have come against Eastern Washington, No. 14 Oregon, Indiana and Ohio. MSU is led by Calli Norman’s 2.85 kills per set, while Melissa Gmur averages 7.09 assists per set and Cara Hackmann averages 5.16 digs per set. The Bears are hitting .243 as a team while opponents are hitting .197 against them. MSU is led by 14th-year head coach Melissa Stokes.

      Sloppy first set but it's nice to know you can play sloppy against the preseason #2 team in the conference that is gunning for you and still come out on top in set 1.

      Shocks gave up a ton in a row at the end but still won 25-22 (score was in a little doubt at the end when MSU had about 6 straight points).

        I hate service errors (by WSU - I don't mind SEs by the other team. :D )

          Through 2 sets WSU had 8 service errors and 1 ace. MSU had 3 aces and 1 service error.

          WSU also with few blocks (game tracker says 0 but that isn't correct) so it's no surprise it's 1-1.

              A service error on set point stops the bleeding and diverts potential disaster.

                      I have to agree with you and actually, I haven't liked our chances since we went brain dead at the end of the first set.

                      For some reason, MSU just gets in our heads. Kind of annoying, as we are so much better than this..... :(

                          Come on Spangler.....it's only 12 erros to 1 ace for the Shocks.

                          MSU has 5 aces and 2 errors.


                          Both teams average about the reverse of that stat.


                          No sense at all.

                            If you think walks in baseball are bad, service errors are about 50x worse.
