Fun to watch, looked confused as much as anything that first set. We do a lot of things with a lot of different people. Lots of stuff to watch going on during every point. I can see why they may have faultered in one of their first matches of the year.

Yeah, I was a little concerned during that 1st set. Lambo said UNC came out in a 5-1 offensive rotation and they had prepared for a 6-2 look. However, the Shocks simply did not play well through the first 30 points. A lot of service errors also in Set 1 which may have been partly due to first match before the home crowd adrenalin rush -- who knows!
Anyway the Shocks did a nice job righting the ship and at times were dominant and at other times a little out of sync.
Defensively I thought they were very sharp. Mel and Sarah both had very good matches. Had to be a little frustrating for UNC to have so many attacks kept alive by the Shocks. A lot of long rallies tonight made for an entertaining match. UNC hit around .250 as a team last week against very good competition. Shocks held them to .106.
Offensively, Amanda Backes was very impressive.
Freshman Emily Adney does take a nice hard swing at the ball.
Sarah Mac was pretty much MIA offensively until the 4th set. MEH and Sarah were just not connecting very well. However, late in the match they did sync up and Sarah put away a few hard smashes.
Katie Niggemeyer did not see a lot of action tonight.
A good win for the Shocks. I do think this team has quite a bit more in the tank though.

OU wins Set 1 25-19, but GSU takes Set 2 by a 25-21 score.
Shocks, of course, need to focus on UNC tonight, but looks like we better not look past GSU tomorrow. Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Unfortunately I had to work today and missed the Grambling State match. I thought GSU might give the Shocks a little more resistance than they did after taking OU to 5 sets last night.
Not sure if the Shocks were very good or the Tigers very bad, but in any case, it sounded like the Shocks totally dominated the match from start to finish.
Nice to see some of the less experienced players get a little time on the court.
Also nice to see our middles getting more involved in the offense.
Looking forward to seeing the Ladies vs OU tonight.

I thought after watching them play OU that how the game would go depended upon our passing. We passed well and served tough and ran away with it. Grambling wasn't as scrappy today, but I think it had a lot to do with how we played. We were just able to attack from all over the floor and they couldn't keep up with that.
Also, as Spangler had linked to on volleytalk, OU's starting setter didn't play last night, which probably played a part in their offensive woes against Grambling.

Good solid win for the Shocks tonight. In his pre-game chalk talk Lambo talked about moving Katie to the left side. He said she wasn't totally comfortable their and has very little training on the left side, but he said sometimes the player that can jump higher and hit harder wins.
Katie more or less proved that to be true tonight. She had a very nice match as did Emily Stockman (as usual). Amanda had a little bit of a down match after two very good performances.
I thought both teams played hard and really kept a lot of balls of the floor. Shocks seemed to do a little bit better job blocking.
Unfortunately the post-game show blew up so we really did not get to hear Lambo's comments.
Shocks played well but I think they are probably capable of playing at an even higher level as the season goes on.

Originally posted by The Mad HatterI could be wrong, but I think OU might have been focusing their defense on Amanda after the numbers she put up in the first two games of the tourney, which is why she had worse numbers, but it allowed others to get open looks.
Also, Katie played very little against UNC so she may have surprised OU with her new role as a left side attacker.
