2009 schedule

The 2009 volleyball schedule is not out yet (to the best of my knowledge). It should appear at http://www.goshockers.com/SportSelec...38&SPSID=61209 someday. Until then, we can only look at published schedules and guess at WSU's schedule. I wish Chris Lamb was not so secretive.

WSU benefited by playing (& beating) Cal Poly last year. We need more tough (i.e. Top 25) opponents. We also need to publicize our great recruiting class.

As it stands, WSU has only one Top 25 team, California, on its schedule. The possibility of playing #1 Penn State, #7 Hawaii, #10 Florida, #11 Illinois, #14 Minnesota, #19 San Diego and #25 Santa Clara remains. If we schedule some of these teams, GREAT!!!

However, I am concerned that this (Cal) is it. If so, I am very disappointed. Look at the schedule of St. Louis University.
#1 Penn State, #4 Texas, #6 Cal, #7 Hawaii, #11 Illinois.
Why can't we do this?

BTW: I missed that SLU plays Creighton. I'll correct this.

The California volleyball team has reached an agreement to open the 2009 season at the Nevada Marriott Courtyard/Fairfield Invitational (Aug. 28-30), head coach Rich Feller announced today. The Golden Bears will cancel the previously scheduled home tournament as host of the Cal Molten Classic. Cal will face UC Irvine (Aug. 28 at 4:30 p.m.), Saint Mary's (Aug. 29 at 4:30 p.m.) and Connecticut (Aug. 30 at 11 a.m.) at the Virginia Street Gym in Reno, Nev. The Bears will not play tournament host Nevada.

I have no idea who we are playing. If we don't play any Top 25 teams, we may need to win the MVC tourney to get into the NCAA tourney. This would be a very bad situation to be in.

I'm really disappointed with the Cal match being canceled. We will have an outstanding team with at least 7 seniors; I think we would have a shot at beating Cal.

I agree. Only Wichita, San Jose and Chicago are going to have this opportunity. I plan to get tickets for both days (even if I can't attend both). Props to Chris Lamb and staff and the athletic staff at WSU (e.g. Brad Pittman, Assistant AD/ Facilities and Operations).
