You gotta love this. #10 in the country is AWESOME!!! 7 regular season games left and 2 MVC tourney games. How high can we go?

Well, the VB poll appears to work much like the b-ball polls. Keep winning and you move up if those ahead of you lose.

I haven't said this before, but for the past several weeks I've felt as though we're overranked. I don't doubt we can compete with the teams near us in the poll, but my gut tells me we're not quite as good as they are. If we had a hitter like Sara back on the right side, I think we would be ranked about right. Drake exposed our attacking a bit Saturday night.

While being this high is a nice reward and pretty good PR, it also sets us up for an embarassing fall if/when we do finally lose. It will also create a lot of expectations assuming they get a good seed in the NCAAs.

          Not everyone loves it.

It is nice when good people get rewarded for doing everything the right way. I agree with Royal in that I am not sure that a) we are that good or b) that we are deserving of the ranking.

It is what it is and this is now a top 10 team that we all are very proud of!

I'm surprised UCLA wasn't punished more for their two losses last week. I can understand keeping them in the #9 position, seeing as they played the #4 and #5 teams, but they only lost a single point in the voting, which seems a little bit odd to me.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I have to agree that I'm not sure were that good, but I do think we are deserving of our ranking. We are 22-0 and the MVC did have 4 teams in the dance last year, so it is not a league without some quality. We won a lot of tough non-conference road matches also.

Penn State and Nebraska are pretty much other wordly. Maybe there are another handful of teams that we don't stack up well against.

After that though, we should be competitive with about anyone. We could also easily lose to anyone in the Top 40.

Whether or not we move up in the rankings is not so important to me as to start playing more like a Top 10 team consistently.

We looked pretty darn good in Sets 1 and 2 vs Creighton. Looked bad in Set 3.

We dominated Drake in Sets 1 and 2 and the first part of Set 3 then the lights went off. Came back in Set 5 and forced our will on Drake.

The thing is every time we move up a notch in the rankings the Target on our back grows bigger and bigger. But that's a great problem to have.

Let's just lose a few so we don't have to worry about whether we stack up or not.

                22 and 0 doesn't really deserve a ranking.

If we were talking about some other team ranked 10th with no wins over top-25 teams would you have replied similarly?

No one is saying they don't deserve to be ranked.

22-0 is what it is. The team has beaten everyone that they have played. Some of the wins weren't pretty even against teams that weren't that good, but they refused to lose. Maybe some of those really good team will put WSU on their schedule next year? Don't hold your breath. The reason we aren't beating the top teams is that they aren't willing to play WSU because that is simply below them to even schedule us. Let's just celebrate our first top 10 rating. :goshocks:

It sounds a little like the complex for the mid major. We have no wins or losses against top 25 teams because they usually won't play us. We have played a quality non conference schedule (when the season started). A couple were Top 25 when we played them. We shouldn't apologize for it.

I wouldn't say that Drake exposed our attack on Saturday. I say this for two reasons, 1. Our attack was overpowering in sets 1 and 2, it was only us playing poorly that caused our attack to suffer, not Drake's ability to stop it on their own. 2. More importantly, it was our serve and serve receive that really hurt us in the 3rd and 4th sets. We either had service errors or easy to handle serves that set up Drake's attack, and on the other end we mishandled a bunch of serves, which kept us out of system.

Nonetheless, I agree with your sentiment to some extent. We do need to improve on offense to merit our top ten ranking, but we don't need to be a whole lot better considering how well our defense is playing.

There is no complex here and no apologizing. It's called objectivity. We have these same types of discussions regarding basketball when a team gets highly ranked but haven't beat anyone in the rankings. Why should it be any different for us in volleyball?

I understand why we are ranked 10th. I didn't say we don't deserve it (polls are what they are and work a certain way). I'm just saying I don't think we're the 10th best team in the country.

I'm saying that you have no objective way to say that because we aren't able to play the teams that would give us a better measuring stick. As long as we keep on winning, that's all that we can do.

I don't believe we are the 10th best team in the country. I believe we are at least the 8th best team. We have one of the top defensive teams in the country. If we can reduce the service errors, etc. on offense I think we could beat any team in the rankings. But, regardless, this team needs to keep finding ways to win and continue to make Shocker history.
