    Fantastic Fans...
Wichita, you should be proud of yourself. Thanks to your support, the Shocker volleyball program now ranks FIFTH in the country in attendance. The Shockers have been on a steady rise through the attendance ranks after finishing in the top 10 last season. If you have yet to experience a match there is still time to jump on the bandwagon, with WSU home for the final time in the regular season this weekend. The Shocks take on Southern Illinois on Friday night before the final home match of the 2008 regular-season on Saturday against Evansville. Senior Day festivities will be held prior to the match on Saturday as Kelly Broussard and Angela Jakubov are honored for their contributions to the program over the last five years. Contact the Shocker Ticket Office at 316-978-FANS to get your seat. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. WSU is one of just TWO undefeated teams in the country, so let's send the Shockers out in style with two huge crowds in their final regular-season matches in Charles Koch Arena.

    When will http://uwbadgers.com/pdf/?id=9011 be updated?

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

The attendance figures are updated now.

My hat's off to her. It looks like this was an oversight which she correctly instantly. (Maybe UW wanted to know if anyone cared before updating. )

        • Wow, Shocks moved into the #5 slot.

Question is can we hang on. This is our last weekend to impact the attendance figures. (I'm assuming they don't include post-season attendance numbers)

We have some tough competition this weekend with high-school football playoffs and the Texas Tech-Oklahoma State game on Saturday evening (get those DVR's warmed up Shocker fans).

Also the Thunder Hockey team has home games both Friday and Saturday (although I'm not sure there is a lot of crossover there among the fan bases).

Hasn't been much promotion for these last two matches so I could see us dropping back down a couple of notches in the attendance figures.

You should be Happy! I'm usually wrong.

If we can draw 6,000 between the two matches this weekend we will finish the year at 3,096 fans per match. Just slightly ahead of the 3,073 average of currently #6 place Penn State.

Whether this allows us to hold on to the No. 5 slot is obviously dependent on how the teams below us draw in their final home games. The only teams I think that might be able to pass us are #6 Penn State (3,073), #7 Purdue (2,919) and #8 Michigan State (2,867).

Remaining home games of these teams are:

              Penn State:
11/21 vs Northwestern (Not sure that will be a big draw)
11/22 vs Wisconsin (Wisconsin no longer in the top 25 but it is Senior Night - 3 Seniors including 2 First Team All-Americans)

              Purdue:
11/14 vs Indiana (Fans may hold off for the next match)
11/15 vs Penn State (#18 vs #1 could be a good draw)
              11/19 vs Illinois (#18 vs #16)
11/21 vs Michigan State (Senior Night)

              Michigan State:
11/7 vs Penn State (Again #1 will likely draw well)
11/8 vs Indiana (If you have to choose one, you probably go to Penn State)
              11/28 vs Iowa
11/29 vs Minnesota (#17 Minnesota + Senior Night)

Holding on to the #5 spot would be great. Hopefully, we can at least hold on to #6 show we can show relative improvement as pointed out by Royal.
If we draw 6,000 this weekend I think we have a shot to hold on to the #5 spot and I doubt we fall below #6.

I guess "we" need to advertise Senior Night as best we can. I hope the Eagle has a nice article tomorrow.

Penn State only drew 2,132 for their 2007 Senior Night, although they were not saying good-bye to 2 First-Team All-Americans.

Paul usually does have a nice article on Friday so I would be very surprised if he doesn't have a nice article featuring the careers of Angela and Kelly.

                  • Shocks draw 2,830 on Friday night vs SIU. Michigan State drew 3,139 vs Penn State. Purdue on the road this weekend.

Shocks hold on to the #5 spot in national attendance but things are tightening up:

                    #5 - Wichita State - 37,084/12 = 3,090 Average (1 Remaining @ Home)
                    #6 - Penn State - 39,947/13 = 3,073 Average (2 Remaining @ Home)
                    #7 - Purdue - 26,272/9 = 2,929 Average (4 Remaining @ Home)
                    #8 - Michigan State - 26,074/9 = 2,897 Average (3 Remaining @ Home)

Shocks need 1,916 to average 3,000 for the year. 2,916 would give us 40,000 in total attendance.

Set those DVR's to record the football game and come out to say Goodbye to this year's Seniors.

Shocks hold on to the #5 spot in national attendance as of 11/08:

                        • So Penn St. actually lost a few on their avg?

                          Comment

                          • Based on my math (hopefully correct) Penn State would need 4661 people at thier last remaining match to pass us. That would give them an average of 3098/match.
Shocker fan since December 28th, 2005!

Also, Purdue would need to get 14002 people for their last 4 matches or an average of 3500.5 people. I think we should have #5 locked up.

According to the Penn State web site they have two matches remaining. I think I must have missed their home match on 11/5/08.

They play Northerwestern on 11/21 and Wisconsin on 11/22.

PSU will need to draw 7,741 over the last two matches to pass the Shockers. Absent any big promotions that will be pretty tough.
