Pretty sure they stopped counting right before first serve, so it probably was higher than the recorded 5900ish..

Maybe there were more than 5,900, but if so, it wasn't by much.

Only about 1,500 to 2,000 stayed for the dunk contest, if that many.

Thought the intros were pretty lame and way, way too time consuming.

Agreed about the intros. At first, it looked like the Hitman was gonna interview EVERY single basketball player, men's and women's.

        Brutal.

But I think somebody told him to shut up and let a few pass before popping another lame question.

Shockers have now drawn 34,274 fans in 11 matches for an average of 3,116.

The need to draw 4,726 fans in their final two home matches against SIU and Evansville to average 3,000 for the season.

I was hoping for a little more of a cushion after this weekend but it did not happen.

He interviewed one from each class. But I can understand the initial thought with two interviews in a row, but that was because there was only one FR.

I do agree that the intros took way too long and weren't that exciting with all the delay.

Before the weekend started, Penn State was averaging 3173 per game (34899 in 11 games) and sat at #6 in average attendance. Penn State played at Wisconsin and at Northwestern this weekend. It would be great to beat Penn State in average attendance even if we don't beat them on the court. :D Please try to show up for the last two games - Fri, Nov 07, Southern Illinois and Sat, Nov 08, Evansville.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

And lets not forget that the Evansville game is Senior Night!

I'm not sure how big a draw senior night is, in and of itself, for the average Shocker fan.

Nov 7 is our 21st wedding anniversary, and my daughter is a "band groupie" at Derby HS (i.e. enrolled in band this semester, but not in the marching band).

I doubt that we'll be able to make it on 11-7, but I am still very hopeful of being there for senior night.

Yeah, it really is kind of a boring, lousy evening where you get to see the proudest parents in the world embrace their thankful daughters in a moment of raw emotion that is almost certain to bring tears to both the families and the fans in attendance.

Considering that WSU has the (self proclaimed) greatest fans in the country, I would suspect that most of them will see right through this charade and stay away. Who would want to celebrate this empty and hollow season on the last regular season day anyway?

I hear ya, Doc. Personally, I love senior nights and find them very emotional (in an uplifting way).

Last year we said farewell to two of the most successful and respected Shocker players in the history of the program and on top of that we were playing arch-rival Creighton. We drew a crowd of 2,752. A nice crowd, but only a little above average, if that.

This year we are saying farewell to two more of our most successful, respected and loved volleyball athletes again in Kelly and Angela. The opponent is Evansville. However, absent any reduced-price admission promotion I just don't see anything much more than an average crowd, which this year will be in the neighborhood of 3,000.

Maybe Shocker fans will surprise me big time for a change. I hope they do.

Doc & 72 & all loyal VB fans: Your support is greatly appreciated. This is a great team with great coaches. Please try to say goodbye to Kelly and Angela on senior night. Talk to the coaches and let them know how much you appreciate their hard work and great results. Talk to the players and say "Thanks," especially to the players who don't get to play a lot because everybody on the team is important. We wouldn't be as good if practices were not so tough. Imagine if your boss posted the stats for each member of your (work) group each week and rewarded the people with the best stats? Imagine if anyone could be the star that week by having the best stats.

I'm just in a foul mood '72, sorry.

I'm totally frustrated with the lack of support. I know we are top 10 in the country. We could, and I believe should, be better.

How much better can the product be?

We have folks clammering for football to return....HA! We have what is becoming a top 20 program...a great coach.....no competition for fans and all we can draw on a Friday night or Saturday night is 3000 average?

For crying out LOUD we are 22 and freaking ZERO!

I don't want to hear a peep out of Shocker fans when Chris and Shannon head for greener pastures.....whenever that happens. We've had our chance to turn good into special.

You could also look at it this way Doc, I happened to be in Athens, Ohio this weekend and attended a University of Ohio volleyball match on Saturday night. Their team has been to the NCAA's the last 5 years with a sweet 16 apperance in 2005. The game was against the top team in the other half of the MAC. There was maybe a crowd of 500-600 people there. I think we are special, but I agree that it could be even better.
