In order to get to a point where 5000 per match is reachable one or more of the following things needs to happen, IMO:

    - Reach the Sweet 16 or higher in the NCAA tournament.

    - Beat Nebraska.

    - Get some boys VB leagues going locally to increase exposure and interest in the sport.
I agree with your 1st two points. Not sure the 3rd item is necessary or would even help that much.

Hosting a regional would be very helpful as it might attract a bunch of first-timers that might get off their wallets for NCAA Tournament matches.
I have yet to find anyone who did not really enjoy themselves at a Shocker VB match once they gave it a try.

I believe we have about 36,000 or so WSU alums in Wichita or the metro area. If 2,500 of them (about 7%) would regularly attend the matches and bring one other person we would be at the 5,000 per match level.

But it is what it is and we seemed to have maxed out for the time being.

We're doing very well attendance wise on a RELATIVE basis, but with Lambo building such a great program I just see the OPPORTUNITY to build something very, very special with Shocker Volleyball as do some of my fellow Shocker fans. Unfortunately, those of us who see this OPPORTUNITY are too few and far between.

You really have to admire the Nebraska and Hawaii fan bases for the support they give their Volleyball programs.

The third item is more of a long-term strategy.

The numbers don't lie. Sports played by males have the highest attendance. Women's basketball has a much larger following than VB. The sport simply isn't going to grow much without more male participation. Short-shorts on the ladies simply isn't enough.

I think some of you are expecting too much growth from year to year. It's going to be a slower process as VB just isn't the draw of other sports. It's a great game, but many people don't experience it and/or understand it. If it weren't for the number of friends I had in HS that played, as well as having the most attractive team in the CTL, I probably wouldn't be a VB fan. I went and watched my friends play and learned to appreciate the sport and learn more about it.

Continued success will help, but I wouldn't expect dramatic increases unless the Shox host or go deep into the tournament. And just making the Sweet 16 may not be enough for the growth I think some want to see.

No doubt you are right on. But some of us are dreamers.

If we get a couple of 6000+ matches like we did last year, then "yes"!!
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Shocks now averaging 2,723 per match. Closing in on #8 spot held by Colorado State at 2,747 per match.

CSU drew 3,252 to its match with #25 Arizona this weekend.

The Shocks drawing 3,504 to a match with Indiana State is very promising.

With only 6 home matches remaining the Shocks need to average 3,323 per match to reach 3,000 for the season.

I would love to see the curtain come down for the UNI match! Just dreamin' a little.

Attendance for the Drake game should be rather high as well I'd think.
