  • UTSA Roadrunner Roundup - Fri, Sept 16 and Sat, Sept 17

The Shocks (5-3) head to San Antonio today as they will take on Texas Tech (10-2) at 9:00 am Friday morning to open up the Roadrunner Roundup hosted by Texas-San Antonio. The Red Raiders have an impressive record but their schedule has not been particularly strong at this point so they are kind of hard to read but they are a Big 12 team with some good size on their roster.

At 3:00 pm Friday afternoon the Shocks take on Texas State (6-6). Texas State has been solid in recent years. The Shocks won a tough 5-set match against the Bobcats in 2014 in San Marcos and they swept the Bobcats in Wichita last year.

The Shocks wind up the 3-match tournament against host UTSA on Saturday at noon. Based on Lambo's comments it would appear UTSA may be the best of the 3 teams the Shockers will face this weekend, although all 3 of these matches should be contested. UTSA plays Texas State at 6:00 pm tonight and they play Texas Tech at 1:00 pm Friday so the scheduling definitely favors UTSA in a pretty big way. The Shocks play their 3 matches with about a 17 hour time span While UTSA's are spread over about 44 hours.

Our schedule is tight, but it's not 17 hours tight. 9am Friday to noon Saturday is 27 hours. :)

        Rise and Shine!

The match with Texas Tech begins at 9am. Two matches of the tournament were played yesterday.

        Texas State 3-0 Texas Tech
        UTSA 3-1 Texas State

Because UTSA has a football game on Saturday, the volleyball tournament schedule is a bit compressed with the last game starting at noon on Saturday - an athletic department resources issue basically.

Dani is available, clearing concussion protocol last night, but Giorgia will start as the libero in this match. Mike says someone did not get the memo - both teams are wearing white jerseys.

13-11 TTech, mid-way through the first set.

Shocks finally get on top, lead 19-17. Timeout Tech.

                Set One

                Shockers 25-21 Texas Tech

The Shocks finish off the set, but this was not as comfortable as it might have been.

The Shockers hit .325 v .238. Tabitha got a ton of sets but was only 5-2-17 for .176. Abbie was 5-0-10 for .500 with Mikaela and Jody having nice numbers but not many swings. Two blocks to none in the Shock's favor.

2nd set going similar to the 1st, where WSU was down 3 early, but got on top mid-way through and leads 13-12.

                    16-12, Shocks.

18-14 becomes 18-17 and the Shockers take a TO.

Now 22-19 and Tech takes a TO.

                          Shockers 25-22 Texas Tech

                          Another struggle.

For the match, the Shocks are .279 v .188.
