  • Wichita State at Missouri State - Friday, Oct 10th, 7:00pm

The Shocks (10-6, 4-2) travel to Springfield on Friday to take on the Lady Bears (10-7, 4-2) in what may be a must win for the Lady Shocks if they hope to contend for a Valley title. In fact, the Lady Shocks have very little, if any, margin for error the rest of the way having lost at home to the league leaders, Illinois State and Northern Iowa.

Missouri State is in the same boat also having lost to ILS and UNI at home. Both the Bears and Shocks were swept by Illinois State in pretty comparable matches. The Shocks lost in 4 sets to UNI while the Bears took the Panthers to 5 sets and dominated then 25-13 and 25-14 in the 1st and 4th sets. In fact MSU outscored UNI in that match 96-92.

Matches with Missouri State have always been tough and this one should be no different with perhaps MSU having an advantage due to playing at home.

MSU's leading score by a fairly wide margin is Lily Johnson, a 5-11 Fr OH. She is averaging 4 kills per set, leads the team in service aces and is 2nd on the team in digs behind the Libero, 5-6 Sr Maddy Hogan. Another Freshman, 6-0 MB Lindsey Wright is 3rd on the team in scoring. 6-3 So MB Simone House is their tallest players and is 5th in scoring but is far and away MSU's best blocker at 1.08 per set.

MSU is big at the setter position which is handled by 6-2 Jr Kinsey McCarter.

MSU leads the all-time series at 43-26 but at one time that advantage was 36-6.

The Shockers have been anything but consistent this year so hard to predict an outcome on this one.

    Definitely a must win scenario.

    From the match notes:

    WSU Seventh in Attendance
Wichita State is ranked seventh nationally in attendance as of Oct. 6. The Shockers are averaging 3,042 fans per match. Nebraska is first and averages 8,350 fans per match.

It looks like we have a shot at setting a new school average attendance record.

    Shocker Fans Show Up
Wichita State had a season-high attendance of 3,609 on Friday against UNI. The Shockers are averaging 3,042 fans per match so far this season. The school record for average attendance is 3,177 set in 2008.

Sounds like they may have fixed the issue with listening to games for free on the mobile app.

WICHITA, Kan. ? Audio of all Wichita State volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball games will be offered on mobile devices free of charge.

The app looks like it's working (headphones icon animates after touching), but no audio.

Just signed on and see the Shocks are tied at 1-1, But I also note that Ashlyn Driskill has not played and from the stats it looks like we might be running a 6-2. Either that or Emily and McKenzie Fyfe are sharing setting duties.

              Can anyone fill me in?

Started the 6-2 coming out of the break. Not good.

Had the Bears 24-20 in the 4th down 1-2. Timeout Shocks at 24-22. Need this point right now to try and get it to 5.

If we lose the point I think we're done.

Lily Johnson is the real deal as a 5-11 FR for the Bears.

Overpass after a Whitledge swing and Katie puts it down.

                  Going to 5.

I can surmise that the Shocks did go with a 6-2 in Sets 1 and 2 and for about half of Set 3 before it started to come apart. Lambo switched back to the 5-1 late in the 3rd set but the Shocks could only trade points to finish Set 3 as the Bears went up 2-1 with a 25-18 win in Set 3.

Lambo stayed with the 5-1 in the 4th Set and the Shocks responded with a 25-22 win.

Imagine that WSU and MSU playing a 5-set match.

You were right, I was not paying attention the first 2 sets but yes 6-2 early. Roddy, Dudzinski also played early.

Abbie Lehman is rapidly becoming a monster. Jenny Whitledge is getting better.

Abbie with 15 kills on 25 swings. Whitledge 15 kills on 43 swings.

                          2-1 Shocks. Kill Lehman.

                            3-1 Mash kill.

                            Jenny playing all 6 rotations.

                            3-2 kill MSU.

                            3-3 dump by setter McCarter.

Lehman not scoring this set....kill Johnson. 4-3 Bears.

                            Better get a timeout.

                            Kill Johnson 5-3.
