The Shocks (10-6, 4-2) travel to Springfield on Friday to take on the Lady Bears (10-7, 4-2) in what may be a must win for the Lady Shocks if they hope to contend for a Valley title. In fact, the Lady Shocks have very little, if any, margin for error the rest of the way having lost at home to the league leaders, Illinois State and Northern Iowa.
Missouri State is in the same boat also having lost to ILS and UNI at home. Both the Bears and Shocks were swept by Illinois State in pretty comparable matches. The Shocks lost in 4 sets to UNI while the Bears took the Panthers to 5 sets and dominated then 25-13 and 25-14 in the 1st and 4th sets. In fact MSU outscored UNI in that match 96-92.
Matches with Missouri State have always been tough and this one should be no different with perhaps MSU having an advantage due to playing at home.
MSU's leading score by a fairly wide margin is Lily Johnson, a 5-11 Fr OH. She is averaging 4 kills per set, leads the team in service aces and is 2nd on the team in digs behind the Libero, 5-6 Sr Maddy Hogan. Another Freshman, 6-0 MB Lindsey Wright is 3rd on the team in scoring. 6-3 So MB Simone House is their tallest players and is 5th in scoring but is far and away MSU's best blocker at 1.08 per set.
MSU is big at the setter position which is handled by 6-2 Jr Kinsey McCarter.
MSU leads the all-time series at 43-26 but at one time that advantage was 36-6.
The Shockers have been anything but consistent this year so hard to predict an outcome on this one.
