That mean computer. If you have Cox or AT&T, or some of the smaller providers around. Can use Roku or Apple TV to watch on your TV.

My understanding is that WatchESPN is app that allows you to watch various ESPN channels on your computer, on your iDevice, etc. But if you do not subscribe to the ESPN channel via your (in my case) cable provider, then you cannot get the channel via WatchESPN. So I can watch ESPN or ESPN2 on my iPad, but I cannot watch ESPNU or Longhorn Network, among others. But I am willing for my understanding to be enlightened.

Is it the same scenario for Roku or Apple TV? I am not conversant in that area.

My understanding is that you can get ESPN3 content on Apple TV, if your ISP is Cox, or if you have Xbox gold membership. You cannot acces ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU without a valid cable subscription. So, if the volleyball game is on ESPN3 you can access it in one of these ways.

From what I could tell, each players name was along the left side of the screen with all of the various kinds of touches shown along the top of the screen from left to right. So, in the Eagle article today that referred to 3-day & 8-day averages, those are the stats I just cited. The 3-day average probably gives Lambo a clue on who is improving the most. The assistant coach told me that Lambo makes his decisions on who gets to play based on each individual player's practice stats, so there isn't much that is subjective about it. the girls know they have to produce in practice in order to get PT.

I was amazed that the assistant coach could keep track of all of the various different kinds of touches each player made. His fingers on the keyboard were practically a blur! I can visualize that there are 3 or 4 different kinds of digs on the back line: (1) One could be a complete miss that should have been dug, (2) A dig that that might have been a pass to the setter but didn't have that much quality to it, (3) A good dig that turned into a quality pass to the setter, etc.
I don't know all the software that the team currently uses, but if I recall correctly, Chris and Shannon actually wrote their own stat tracking software earlier in their careers to keep track of everything they wanted to. Volleyball is incredibly stat driven and what shows up in the box score is only scratching the surface of the sport's meaningful statistics. In this respect, volleyball and baseball are very similar and a sabermetrics type approach works well for both.

It was stated earlier somewhere that this weekend's tournament was Internet only. As it turns out, all the volleyball matches will be Internet only this year, as will the women's basketball games. I don't know that I am buying the rationale, BWDIK. Home softball games are an addition to the broadcast schedule, again Internet only. Coaches' shows will remain on the radio.

Very nice article on Emily Hiebert in today's Eagle.

Sounds like the setting duties are in good hands for many years to come. It still surprises me that we don't have better student support especially from the male portion of the student body.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but not attending WSU volleyball matches is, simply put, an opportunity missed.

Let's start it off....we don't even know who's going to start!

                    What say you Shocker fans?

We could run a 5-1 or a 6-2....almost nothing is certain. The last 7+ years you could mostly etch in stone the starters, or at least the vast majority.

Certainly for today's game there are "safe" selections....Emily Hiebert is going to be our setter, whether it's a 5-1 or a 6-2. It's tough to see a scenario where Katie Reilly doesn't start in the middle, but will she be a 6 rotation player?

Dani Mostrom should be the libero, but there is a LOT of competition for those DS spots.

                    I'm going with:

Ashlynn Driskill on the right, Katie in the middle and Mikaela Raudsepp on the left. Emily as the setter along with Dani and Gaby in the back row. I expect Abbie to rotate in for one of the littles, also to start in a 5-1 (but not stay there all year) and see lots of changes throughout the first month.

I can't really take any exception to that @WuDrWu:. Not only do we not have a lot of experience coming back but Katie and Ashlyn are pretty much changing roles with Katie moving to the middle and Ashlyn moving from primarily the left side to the right side. Katie will be a little undersized as an MB so it will be interesting to see if she can overcome that with her athleticism and power. Dani and Gaby are our only experienced players who will be fill the same roles as last year. The only reserve that has any measurable playing time is Mary Ashton Floyd but she does have 2 years in the program.

Among the youts (as Joe Pesci would say) I can see just about any of them earning playing time. So it will be interesting to see who plays and who may redshirt although it may take a while to figure the latter out for sure.

With the new internet only broadcasting will we still have a pre-game show with Lambo 15 minutes before match time? I guess we will find out shortly.

goShockers.com says it is free. I guess we will find out whenever the link appears. Start time shows 5:15 so we must be getting the normal pre-match show with Lambo.

Any minute now and we find out for sure.
