    Lambo on Chelsey:

Lamb never has to worry about Feekin. She’s strong in the classroom and, as a scan of his brain indicates, one of the finest players he has coached.

“We know that every night, the team we’re playing is going to have to deal with something they’re not used to dealing with because of Chelsey,’’ Lamb said.

“She brings a lot to the table and she has that ice water running through her veins. She’s unflappable. And she’s also the sweetest, neatest, lowest-maintenance superstar I’ve ever been around. And I just dig it.’’

Can you dig it! Gotta love it. I did not realize they had stopped recruiting Chelsey because she didn't fit the time line with Mary Elizabeth in the fold. Are we fortunate she was a determined young lady and new what she wanted and mature enough to wait her turn.

Heard a radio advertisement today about the upcoming tournament. Looks like I will be bringing my son, his wife their three kids and my daughter and her three kids. This will be a fun family outing and made more affordable on saturday.

Well, it's nice to see the marketing department has woken up. It only has taken 24 hours before the first home game, but by golly, we have advertising!

In all seriousness, it's nice to see an effort being made.

Free tickets for Hawaii? Wow. If the word gets out, I would hope we would set an attendance record.
        Deuces Valley.
        ... No really, deuces.

Creighton is hated in everything. What I really hate is the fact that such a big game is being played on a Sunday afternoon during NFL season. That'll hurt pretty badly. I would have expected a Friday night Creighton match with South Dakota put on the Sunday backburner. I'm sure there were scheduling quirks that only made this arrangement possible though.

I hope it's not too little, too late for the advertising campaign that's finally rolling out onto the table a day or two out from the actual event.

Whether or not you want to argue that the marketing should more more or is just right, there is one ultimate factor that will help future attendance this season: WIN BIG MATCHES (or at least play well). Now, it might seem like I am being over-critical, but I promise I am not.

Last year, there was a big marketing push to pack out the Northern Iowa match. Knowing I am a big Shocker fan, my in-laws asked me about going to that match since there was a good promotion going on for tickets. Sure, I said. I got a group of six people to go, expecting a very intense, exciting map. What happened? The girls played like garbage and were swept, none of the games being close, if I recall.

I was pissed for reasons other than losing an important match. If the department is going to put all the effort into promoting that match to try to turn non-fans into casual fans and casual fans into hardcore, the girls had to help out by playing well. I think my in-laws were being polite and said that they did have a good time, but since the match was a dud, that probably put a little seed in their heads that volleyball isn't that exciting. That's not what you want when trying to expand your fanbase. When you tell people over and over again, "you need to come to a volleyball match," and then when people finally do only to watch the girls play bad, it is almost embarrassing. If you want receive the positive attention and recognition when things go well, you better be willing to accept criticism when you fail. Now, of course, the girls acquitted themselves nicely, reaching the MVC final and then of course beating KU to get to the Sweet 16. So kudos to them.

Rolling through the Valley will be fun, and sweeping the Evansvilles, Drakes, and Bradleys of the world are nice, but the girls have a HUGE opportunity in multiple facets with some big-time matches this weekend. Let's hope they take advantage. GO SHOCKS!

The Lady Shocks have won many big and exciting matches both at home and on the road over the years and have lost a lot of big matches where they played well. That is one reason why we have a relatively strong fan base for women's volleyball. But, no they have not won every big opportunity they have faced. However, your are right they did play poorly in that particular match against UNI. Hopefully, that will not happen this weekend. But even if it does I am still with this program 100%.

Creighton may be hated in everything but apparently not enough to meaningful impact attendance. As far as NFL football game this forces you to DVR the NFL games you want to watch and then go back and watch then in hour instead of 3 hours. In any case, these days it hard to find a time when there isn't an NFL game being played.

Since there's no danger of a sell-out and most seats are GA, there's really no need to order ahead of time. Just get 'em at the ticket window and save yourself some "convenience" fees.

Oh, I totally agree with you about supporting them 100%. Lambo is the best, and in the opportunities that I have been around the girls, I have seen that they are absolutely top-notch. Also, you are right that they have won many big matches. That UNI match last year just sticks out at me because that was a rare time when I was able to get people to go to the match with me.

Sunday could be helped by the fact that the Chiefs play tonight. On the other hand, tonights game could be impacted because the Chiefs play tonight.

I am expecting below average crowds tonight vs MSU and tomorrow night vs South Dakota although I think both matches could be very competitive and entertaining.

I am expecting a big crowd for Hawaii on Saturday and an average to slightly above average for the Creighton match on Sunday. The Creighton match may well be influenced by how we play against Hawaii. An upset win against Hawaii could well energize many to come back again for the Creighton match.

For casual fans the best home matches to mark (at least on paper) is MSU tonight, Hawaii on Saturday, Creighton on Sunday, Italian National Team on Sept 30th (an exhibition match), Louisville on Oct 15th, and UNI on October 26th and, of course, the Valley Tournament Semi-Finals and Finals if the Shocks make it that far on the weekend after Thanksgiving. Of course, these are the matches the Shocks in which the Shocks could most likely play poorly because the level of competiion is the highest they will face at home.

I know you're trying to drive the Creighton thing hard '72 and recruit some lurkers to the game. However, I'm not gonna watch DVR'ed NFL games. I'm just saying a lot of people like to mosey around on Sundays and watch football. Your diehards will be there on Sunday but it's a hard time to sell for the casual fans.

We've stated how poor it is for men's basketball games played on Sunday afternoons. I'm making the same case here. I think Creighton should've been scheduled on Friday night, if at all possible.

What I am saying and you are doing a good job of substantiating for me is that all this Creighton vitriol is mostly just talk not backed by any walk.

Personally, I'm with Coach Lamb on this and am pleased that we can still keep a strong program like Creighton on our schedule. Especially when KSU and KU refuse to play us in the regular season. Kudos to the BlueJays for wanting to continue playing us. Hope it continues in most of our team sports.

Not sure Friday night would have worked out much better since it'd be competing with HS football.
