Don't let that fool you. UNI will be very competitive in the MVC. Losses to Utah State, Utah (who beat Utah State), #11 Iowa State and Wisconsin. All good teams Were competitive in all those matches. Shocks beat Utah State in 5 sets.

Thought I'd do an overview of MVC volleyball [or at least the top teams], as we move into conference play (still some non-conference action on tap for a number of teams this week, but MVC play starts up as well). Records are current through Sun. 9/15. Rankings (AVCA Coaches Poll) and Pablo rankings (a fairly respected vb power ratings system) are from the 9/16 release.
I arbitrarily defined "good wins" as those against teams with a Pablo ranking of better than 100 (including those close to 100 in case they improved in this week's Pablo)

          Wichita State (9-1) Pablo 31
only loss to #18 Arizona State (P 10)
          good wins: VCU (P 65), Utah State (P 98), @Tennessee (P 109) [TN took a 50 spot drop in this week's Pablo. ouch],
Shockers have gotten off to a good start, as expected. They have an interesting week coming up, with a home match against their travel partner, Missouri State (P 72) on Thursday night, and then hosting a high caliber non-conference tournament this weekend, bringing in #7 Hawaii (P 2), #23 Creighton (P 16), and South Dakota.

          Northern Iowa (6-4) Pablo 61
          losses: #25 Iowa State (P 36), Wisconsin (P 31), @Utah (P 34), Utah State (P 98)
          good wins: Louisville (P 58)
Panthers have a young, inexperienced team that had some trouble in the early season, but have started to play better. UNI has a Tuesday night match at Northern Illinois before starting MVC play at Loyola-Chicago.

          Illinois State (7-3) Pablo 65
          losses: #14 Michigan State (P 13), @Butler (P 61), VCU (P 65)
          good wins: UC-Davis (P 93), IPFW (P 103), @IUPUI (P 106)
Redbirds begin MVC play by hosting Evansville and SIU next weekend, then have a midweek match at Marquette (P 43)

          Missouri State (8-3) Pablo 72
          losses: @ #22 Colorado State (P 20), Oklahoma (P 21), Tulsa (P 55)
          good wins: @Dayton (P 71), Northeastern (P 107)
Bears kick off MVC play at Wichita State (P 31) on Thurs. night, and then host Kansas State (P 52) next Mon.

          Southern Illinois (4-7) Pablo 148
          Bradley (6-3) Pablo 172
          Loyola-Chicago (5-6) Pablo 188
          Evansville (6-4) Pablo 188
          Indiana State (5-5) Pablo 221
          Drake (2-9) Pablo 267

updated poll and pablo rankings in the overview. also, Illinois State's Pablo ranking improved, so I flipped them and MSU, since I had listed the MVC teams in order of Pablo.

someone on Volleytalk posted this sort of thing for the Big Ten(ish), and it got me curious how it would look with the MVC, and since I have too much time on my hands, I compiled how the standings would look if they were based on set winning percentage instead of match winning percentage.

              Code:
              [U]#	Team	SW	SL	Set%	Match%[/U]
              1	WSU	33	11	.750	.769
              2	UNI	32	12	.727	.833
              3	ILS	29	13	.690	.750
              4	MSU	30	17	.638	.615
              5	SIU	27	22	.551	.615
              6	BU	22	26	.458	.462
              t7	LU	19	25	.432	.385
              t7	INS	19	25	.432	.333
              9	UE	10	33	.233	.231
              10	DU	0	36	.000	.000
Shockers edge out the Panthers by a set, which flipflops those two. Bears are a bit better than the Salukis (where as they are tied in the match standings), and the Sycamores are even with the Ramblers (where Loyola has a slight edge in the match standings). Otherwise, everyone is in the same place.

Totally meaningless in the big scheme of things, but I was bored. haha.
