Really liked the at bats from Burbs and Sami in the 1st letting the ball get deep and driving the pitches on the pitches on the outer half to right. Two very well struck doubles to right center.

Did we get away with CC not touching home?

I noticed that as well in real time.

In the bottom of the 2nd CC goes oppo for a double off the left center filed wall and Addie goes oppo for a home run over the the party deck in right.

I thought she barely got the front edge.

                PbP continued.

The Blazers manage to get runners at the corners (single, sac bunt, wild pitch, walk) but do not score in the third. Runners for the Shocks (single, DP, HBP, walk) but no runs. Still 7-0.

Smith, the only long-ball threat for UAB, homers in the fourth. Taylor's leadoff single leads to nothing. 7-1 after four.

An infield single in the fifth for the Blazers, but three Ks for Lauren. Lainee singles for the Shocks but is later doubled off on a fly ball. 7-1 after five.

The leadoff for UAB in the sixth is hit by a pitch, but they cannot advance her.

CC doubles to start the Shocker sixth, and Addie follow with her second homer of the game. 9-1. Ball game by the runs-ahead rule.

                UAB 1-9(6) Shockers

A very nice outing by Lauren: three hits allowed with six strikeouts. Twelve hits for the Shocker offense with eight of them for extra bases: two homers by Addie with five RBI, two doubles by both CC and Sami, and doubles by Taylor and Bailey. Bailey and Sami each had two RBI

Looks like the bats have come to life.

Glad I chose to use a live chicken.

Baseball team could use one also…

A very nice outing by Lauren indeed. Perhaps her best of the year. I thought the key was her command of her rise ball which she has been struggling with this year. She was keeping that at or right around the top of the zone. Her drop change was pretty good today as well and was probably enhanced by her ability to throw her rise very effectively today.

Addie's first home run moved her into a 10th place tie all-time in career home runs and her second home run, a mighty blast into the wind that I think hit high up on the flag pole in left center, moved her into 10th place by herself.

The way that ball dropped down inside the wall it might of actually been hit into the flag at the top of the pole.

PS: According the game report on goshockers.com Addie's game ending home run was, in fact, hit into the American flag. Prodigious! Roy Hobbs would have been proud of that one.

Both of Addie’s homers were no doubters off the bat. The walk off did indeed hit the flag. Walking out a UAB fan said seeing that HR was worth the price of admission. It was a BOMB!
                          Go Shocks!

Hopefully, Chloe can show some signs of growth today. It does raise the question of Alex's health.

As expected UAB is bringing back senior Leigha Kirby who shut out the Shock on 2 hits on Friday.

Chloe gave up a bunt single and a walk in the 1st inning but navigated through that pretty well getting a strikeout to end the inning in which she fell behind 2-0 then blew 3 fastballs past UAB's rangy shortstop to end the inning.

CC started the Shocker 1st with an 8-pitch walk. 1-out later Taylor drilled the 1st pitch she saw over the wall in left-center. Another no doubter. Shocks trake an early 2-0 lead.

Chloe allowed 1 walk in the 2nd but struckout the other 3 UAB batters she faced.

In the bottom of the 2nd, following a Lainee fly out to the edge of the warning track in the left field corner, Caroline was hit by a pitch and Jess was walked. Krystin grounded a ball that appeared to heading to right through the 3-4 hole but it hit Jess who was called out for interference. After falling behind in the count 0-2 CC lined a 1-2 pitch past the 2nd baseman that rolled to the wall in right center for a 2-out, 2-run double. Shocks lead 4-0.

In the top of the 3rd Chloe sets down the top 3 in the UAB order with 2 strike outs and a routine grounder to short. In the bottom half Taylor ripped a frozen rope but it was right at the UAB 3rd baseman. Burbs and Sami struck out.

In the top of the 4th walk, can of corn to right, strike out, wild pitch moves the runner to 2nd, and a strikeout. A one-out walk to Caroline and nothing else for teh Shocks in the bottom half of the inning.

The beat goes on for Chloe in the 5th. Stirke out, strike out (#10), bunt single, easy roller to Sami at 2nd. CC leads off the Shocker half of the 5th with a home run to left center. Addie followed with a low liner past the 3rd base bag inot the corner for a double. That knocked Leigha Kirby out of the game with lefty freshman Olivia Cummings coming on to pitch. Taylor lined to short, Burbs struck out and Sami popped out to short. Shocks 5 - UAB 0.

UAB gets a lead off double in the 6th on a shallow bloop that landed just insided the line in left and took a left turn. A walk on a full count to Lindsey Smith, probably UAB's biggest offensive threat triggered a visit to the moung by Coach Oliver-Elkins. 10 pitches and 3 strike outs later the Shocks are in the dugout.

In the Shocks half of the 6th Caroline ripped a 1-out line drive to right that the UAB right fielder was just able to reach up and grab. Mila lined a ball over the left fielders head to the base of the wall but was held to single. Those 2 balls were as well hit has any in this game. Krystin hit a lazy fly to center to end the Shocker at gat.

Chloe going for the complete game shut out. Strike out, popup to 3rd, walk and a stirkeout (#15) and the 3-hit, complete game shutout is in the books. UAB can return to Birmingham with a story about experiencing a Kansas tornado.

                              Shocks 5 - UAB 0

An extremely encouraging outing by Chloe.

Chloe is pitching fairly well. She is throwing enough strikes that UAB has to be swinging. I am encouraged through 4.
