Chloe got it done. Her command wasn't great but it was good enough. The final out of the game was a very well struck ball to left center that Bailey was able to run down.

    Posted Krystin's big play above.

        Game Two

        Shockers at East Carolina

[Will be away for all of this one. The interesting question is who will get the start? Alison, another finesse pitcher? Chloe, the power pitcher?]

Wild first inning. Taylor smacks a 3-run home run that would have been a 1st inning grandslam had Addie not been thrown out attemptig to steal 2nd.

Alison not very sharp in the first giving up a double, a hit by pitch, a single and two walks with a stolen base and a passed ball on Sophie thrown in and she was lucky to only give up 2 runs while leaving the bases loaded.

Nothing going for the Shocks in the 2nd. Chloe struck out on a full count in her first collegiate at bat. Alison works around a leadoff single and a 2-out infield hit in the bottom of the 2nd.

The Shocks add on 2 more in the top of the 3rd.

Addie bangs one of of the batter's eye:

After Taylor reached on a 2-out hutstle double Caroline delivered wih a sharply hit single to left:

Alison hit an ECU batter with 1 out but she was erased on a sharply hit line drive 4-3 double play. Just low enough to be in reach of our 5-4 CC Wong.

Shocks lead 5-2 after 3. Somehow, it feels like 5 runs won't be enough.

Shockers down in order in the 4th. Alison works around a 1-out infield hit and a 2-out passed ball on Sophie (her 2nd of the game) in the bottom half of the inning.

In the top of the 5th, a CC double to left and walks to Burbs and Taylor loaded the bases with 1 out. Caroline delivered CC to the plate with a sac fly to center before Sophie fouled out to the catcher to end the inning.

In the bottom of the 5th Alison gave up a single to center and walk and then another line drive single to center that Addie short-hopped an threw to 2nd for the rare 8-4 force out. With runners on 1st and 3rd HCKB brings in Alex in relief of Alison. A sac fly to right scores the runner from 3rd before a pop up to Taylor behind 3rd ended the ECU at bat.

After 5 innings the Shockers lead 6-3.

In the top of the 6th an ECU error and a solid single to center by Krystin sandwiched aroud a pop out by Lainee who was pinch hitting for Clhoe gave the Shocks runners at 1st and 2nd with CC coming to the plate and Addie on deck . CC flied out to deep right center and Addie popped out to shallow left center to end rhe threat.

ln the bottom of the 6th Alex set down the first two hitters before giving up a solid single to center and line drive double to the wall in right center putting runners as 2nd and 3rd. A single to left plates both runners on a ball I thought Bailey perhaps should have got to but she may have misread it a little. A line shot right at Jesse at 1st end the inning. But after getting the 1st two outs of the at bat Alex wasn't fooling anybody.

Shocks lead cut to 6-5 heading to the 7th.

Unless the Shocks put up a run or 2 in the 7th it would not surprise me to see Chloe in the circle in the bottom half of the 7th.

In the top of the 7th the Taylor singled to center with 1 out and stole second with 2 outs with a great slide to avoid the tag but Sophie struck out swinging on a ptich on the outside corner that she had not chance or reaching due to how far she stands off the plate.

Here comes Chloe. Let's hope she is on her game. After a 5-3 ground out, ECU gets a little nubber off the handle that got over Krystin at third. Nice catch by Jesse on a foul ball right at the edge of the stands. The ECU runner advanced to 2nd on a ball ruled a wild pitch but looked like a passed ball to me. Lainee is now catching. Following a walk to put the winning run on base, Chloe gets a game ending strike out on what looked like a great change up.

Shocks hang on for the 6-5 win.

I will be surprised if Chloe does not get the start. But we will see.

Your question has been answered and apparently Choe is he designated closer this weekend. However, I am guessing Lauren will be on a fairly short leash. I wonder if this decision would have been different if the Shocks had split the first 2 games? Will never know that.

ECU is going back to freshman Taylor Apple who was very good in Game 1 shutting out the Shocks on only 2 hits after giving up 3 walks and a grand slam to the first 4 Shocker hitters to start the game. So essentially she pitched a complete game 2-hit shutout after giving up the grand slam. Ap.ple has a 1.66 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP. I would say advantage ECU on paper. Let's see how it goes on the field.

Sophie Johnson is the DP today and jess Garcia is back at 1st base.

Another great start for the Shocks against Apple. A ground single to right by CC, an 8-pitch walk to Addie, two solid line drive singles by Burbs and Taylor followed a a deep sac fly to center by Caroline put the Shocks up by 3 with runners at the corners and only 1 out. However, Sophie and Jessica hit shallow pop flies to center and left to end the half inning.CC

Pretty good start by Lauren. A stirke out and and walk on full counts to the first 2 batters. Then a nice 3-swing strike out to the 3-hole hitter and and a can of corn to center by the clean-up hitter.

Shocks get a lead off double to the wall in left center by Krystin. Exactly what you want from her in the 9-hole. But CC pops out to the pitcher, Addie flies out to center and Burbs struck out. That is a couple of good scoring opportinities the Shocks have missed on.

ECU gets a double high off the right center field wall and a walk leading off the 2nd. On an attempted sac bunt thar was popped in the air about 10 feet directly in front of home plate was caught by a charging diving catch by Jess Garcia. Lauren settled down to get a strike out and a foul pop fly to left hauled in by Bailey. So ECU wastes and scoring opportunity in the 2nd as well.

In the Shocker 3rd a Taylor walk and a Caroline hit by pitch gave the Shockers runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out Sophie pop out to 3rd base but Jess lined a 3-2 pitch of the wall in teh left field corner for a double scoring both runners. Krystin followed with a line drive tiketed fo rifhr fied but the long ECU first basemen made a nice backhanded grab to end the Shocker at bat.

In the bottom of the 3rd Lauren quick fly ball outs to right and left against the 1 and 2 hole hitters before hitting the 3-;hole hitter and giving up a solid ground ball single through the 5-6 hole to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Lauren then struck out the 5-hole hitter who had doubled of the wall in the 2nd inning.

ECU makes a pitching change to start the 4th with Jordan Hatch in the circle. CC greets Hatch with a ground single to left, but Addie flies out to left on a ball she just got under a little bit. Burbs flares one off the handle to 2nd. CC thrown out at 2nd attempting to steal on a 3-1 pitch. I assume that wasn't a hit an run and Taylor made no effort to swing at the pitch which was a strike. Hatch has a nice change up.

In the bottom of the 4th Lauren falls behind the lead off hitter 3-0 and they the Shocks, interestingly, get Alex up in the bullpen. Lauren, however, comes back to get a strike out and the falls behind 3-0 on the next hitter before coming back to get another strikeout. Howefer, a single to right and 2 walks load the bases. A wild ptich scores a run with the count moving to 3-2. A jam shot soft liner to Taylor at short gets the Shocks out of the inning.

After 4 the Shocks lead 5-1.

Taylor leads of the 5th, and after fouling the first 2 pitches got what had to be mistake pitch as she launched a no doubter over the left center field wall to get that 4th inning ECU run back as Taylor's most likely AAC POW weekend continues.

After Lainee lined out right at the right fielder and Caroline was out on a sharply hit grounder to the left of the ECU shortstop who made a nice play the Shocks decided they wanted more. Sophie, who looks like she has moved up on the plate just a little bit today, skied a 3-2 pitch up and on the inner half over the left center field wall with perhaps a ittle help by the breeze.

Jess and Krysrin walked and CC line a ball just to the left of the 2nd baseman that rolled to the wall scoring both Jess and Krystin, Addie struck out to end the at bat but the Shocks have but the run-rule in play taking 9-1 lead.

ECU has the 3-4-5 hitters due up in the botton of the 5th. Luaren fields a soft grounder and throws to 1st for out #1. She walks the 4 hole hitter. Bailey runs down a fly ball towards the left field line without too much trouble for out #2. Lauren runs the count full to the next batter before recording her 7th strikeout to close out the game and a series sweep for the Shockers.
