Shocks not doing well in taking advantage of some great scoring opportunities in the 1st and the 3rd.
Fortunately, the same can be said of KU.
Perhaps credit belongs to both of the pitchers.Last edited by 1972Shocker; March 12, 2024, 05:06 PM.

PbP again.
Jessica pinch-hits for Sophie to open the fourth and singles. Mila bunts into a force out and a DP follows. Three quick outs for KU. 1-1 after four.
With one out, another four-pitch walk to Addie. It appears KU are willing to walk her, let her possibly steal second, and take their chances. Taylor flies out, and Addie is caught stealing. :) Still 1-1.
A triple leads off the Jayhawk fifth. Trouble. An error by Taylor and the run scores. An infield single to first base advances the runner to third and a steal of second follows. No outs. A single up the middle scores two more. Chloe is on to pitch. A hit batter with her first pitch - sigh. Both runners advance on a passed ball and score on a single. Three outs follow including a caught-stealing to end the inning. KU 6-1 after five. Ugh.
Bailey doubles to open the sixth for the Shocks. Three outs later, she is still there. 6-1 in the middle of the sixth.
A bunt single by Kansas with one out, but Chloe gets the next two outs with a K ending the inning. 6-1.
With one out, Krystin doubles, and CC follows with an infield single. What do we do with Addie this time? Pitch to her - carefully. She walks after a first-pitch strike. Bases are loaded. Maybe the strike was a mistake. Taylor walks to score one run. Bailey grounds out but another run scores. Lainee gets a walk, and the bases are loaded again. Two outs. Caroline grounds out to end the game.
Shockers 3-6 Kansas
CC had two of the six hits by the Shocks including a triple. Bailey and Krystin had doubles. Alex had a nice four innings before the wheels came off.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 12, 2024, 06:00 PM.

Sami will be out several weeks recovering. As always, getting back into the flow doesn't happen overnight so being cleared to play and being capable of helping out are 2 different things. 4 weeks was what I heard. It's not a season ending thing.

Game Two
Jessica is the dp, replacing Sophie. Lauren has the start - I expected as much. Kasey Hamilton is in the circle for KU.
CC singles to open the game and two outs later, Bailey walks (four pitches). Lainee fans to end the threat. It seems a couple of the Shocker hitters are getting some respect in certain situations. On to the bottom half of the first.
An infield single with one out, stolen base, and a walk and the Jayhawks are threatening. A hit batter (first pitch) and the bases are loaded. The Bagshaw girl follows with a grand slam. After the second out, an error by CC extends the inning with the batter-runner reaching second. But only for a short time - she is wild-pitched to third and scores on a single. Then another walk of the four-pitch variety. Alison is in the circle for the Shocks and gets the last out of the inning. 5-0.
Three up, three down in the Shocker second with two Ks. Hamilton will be very tough. Sydney in RF for Mila. Sometimes, Mila is just overmatched, being a freshman, and suffered one of the Ks. Alison get three Jayhawks in a row. 5-0 after two.
Krystin singles and moves all the way to third on an error by the CF. CC singles to bring her home. Alison induces three ground outs to retire the Jayhawks in order. 5-1 after three.
Play by Play continued below.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 12, 2024, 07:28 PM.

At this point, might as well let the other freshman (Schertz) pitch…what is there to lose?

PbP again.
Lainee singles to open the Shocker fourth and advances on an outfield error. Jessica singles her to third with one out. Two ground outs follow. 5-1 in the middle of the fourth.
A two-out walk for KU - the first baserunner for Alison after she retired the first nine she faced. A ground out ends the inning. Still 5-1 after four.
CC leads off the fifth with a homer. Taylor walks with one out, but Bailey lines into a DP, 4-3. Now 5-2.
Two singles lead off the KU fifth, but Alison gets the next three batters. 5-2.
Nothing doing in the sixth for the Shocks. Jayhawks have a runner with one out on a hit-by-pitch. With two outs, the runner steals second, but Alison gets a strikeout. KU 5-2 after six.
Madison pinch-hits for Sydney to lead off the seventh and is a strikeout. Then Krystin walks and CC singles. The tension mounts as Addie comes to the plate. :) She does it!!! A three-run shot ties the game! 5-5 and on the bottom half.
Three in a row again. 5-5 after seven.
No tiebreaker yet. Lainee singles and Caroline sacs Avery to second. A pop up and fly out follow. 5-5 in the middle of the eighth.
Tiebreaker in the tenth if we get there? Maybe none at all.
One-out single for KU. An error by Taylor and runners are at second and third. Long delay. ?? Infield single and the winning run scores.
Shockers 5-6(8) Kansas
Outstanding effort by Alison. She gave up just four hits over 6.2. The winning run is earned says LS, but that cannot be unless CC knocked the ball down, and it trickled onto the outfield grass. We see why KU avoided Addison in the first game. However, CC had four hits including a homer and the other two RBI.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 12, 2024, 10:21 PM.
