I will say that after a bit of a rough start, Alex seems to have settled in pretty well. Granted, we only have the stat tracker to go on.

After she gave up a walk and a double to start the 5th she retired 9 in a row to close out the game.

Not a particularly impressive season opening game but the Shocks did pick up the season opening win. Three home runs and a big SFA error were enough for the Shocks in this one. Laine with the big 3 run home run early, CC and Z with solo homers with freshman Z getting the game winning hit.

I guess we will see Ali in the circle in today's 2nd game vs Sam Houston.

Game Two

Shockers at Sam Houston State

Addison, CC dp, Taylor, Bailey, Lainee, Sami, Sydney 1b, Siera Hoekstra 2b, Krystin 3b with Alison in the circle. Abigail Young, a freshman, is pitching for the Bearkats.


Welcome to the Show, Abigail. Addison leads off with a homer - on the first pitch of the game, yet. CC follows with a single. Although Lainee reaches with two outs on a dropped throw at first, no more runs for the Shocks.

The Bearkats respond with an infield single, a groundout that advances the runner, and a two-out infield single that drives that runner home. 1-1 after one.

Siera is hit by a pitch, but Krystin grounds into an inning-ending double play. SHS has a two-out single, another of the infield variety. An error by Siera extends the inning. The Bearkats execute a double steal during the next at-bat to put two runners in scoring position, but Alison induces a groundout to end the inning. 1-1 after two.

CC cranks another homer in the Shocker third. The leadoff for SHS is hit by a pitch. Two outs later, a double scores the tying run. 2-2 after three.

This is early in this game, of course, but the Shockers are out-hit in both games.

Three up, three down in the fourth for the Shocks. A leadoff single and a sac bunt create another scoring chance for the Bearkats. A two-out single and SHS has the lead. 3-2 Bearkats after four.

With two outs, Addie hit her second homer of the game to tie the game at three. Again, a first-pitch home run. 3-3 as we head to the bottom of the fifth.

Hmm. Defensive changes for the Shockers: CC to third, Krystin to second, Siera not on defense.

A two-out single for SHS, but Alison gets a groundout. This is her typical gritty outing. 3-3 after five.

Taylor leads off the sixth with a single. Bailey's sac bunt sends Taylor all the way to third, but a pop-up and strikeout end the threat. Three up, three down for the Bearkats. Still tied as we go to the seventh.

With one out, Caroline pinch-hits for Siera and flies out as does Krystin. On to the bottom half.

Chloe is in to start the bottom of the seventh. Three batters, three outs, and two Ks. Nice start to her Shocker career..

Tie breaker in the eighth. This is done only because of the tournament, In conference play, there is no tiebreaker (I think).

Krystin starts on second base. Addie and CC both walk to load the base with no outs. Taylor flies out (deep?) and everyone moves up a base, Krystin scoring. Avery Barnard is in to pinch-run for CC. Bailey doubles to score two more. Mila Seaton is on to pinch-run for Bailey, and Daryn Grams is now in the circle for SHS. After the second out, Sami singles to score Mila. With Sami on second after the throw to the plate, Sydney walks on four pitches (intentional?). Caroline flies out to end the top half. 7-3 Shockers in the middle of the eighth.

Chloe wild pitches the SHS runner from second to third and walks the batter. So it goes. :) Hopefully, this does not become the Nebraska game at last year's Stillwater Regional. K looking, K swinging, another K swinging. Nope, it is not. Ballgame.

Homers by Addie (2) and CC along with Bailey's two-run double were the offense. Alison had her typical scrappy outing. Chloe gets the win with 5 Ks in her two innings.

Now that was small all by Sam Houston to plate a run in the first. No walks, no errors, no balls hit out of the infield.

Very small sample size but so far it looks like CC will be able to give Addy some protection.

And while it was to be expected the Shocks are finding things without Syd the Kid and Lulu much more difficult. The Shock have 9 hits in 12 innings so far today. 6 of the hits were home runs and 5 of those homers were of the solo variety. The 2 runners on base when Lainee hit her 3-run home reached via walks. Teams may start pitching around both Addy and CC who have 4 of the 6 homers. Hopefully, we seeing some opening day jitters in play here although we new replacing Syd and LuLu was going to be a major challenge.

Extra innings. Top of the order due up in the 8th for the Shocks. Tiebreaker rules in effect. Krystin placed on 2nd. Addy leading off.

That pretty much took the bat out of Addy's hands as they walked her on 5 pitches.

CC walks to load the basis also on 5 pitches. Not sure that was what they really wanted to do but throwing strikes to CC is not the easiest thing in the world.

Taylor gets a sac fly with all 3 runners moving up. Sure could use that 2nd run.

Heck of an 8th inning. BUrbs doubled down the line to score the Barnard sisters. Sami picked up her first hit of the season to score another making it 7-3 going into the bottom of the 8th

Chloe starts out the 8th shaky throwing a WP on the first throw and walking the batter. Then she strikes out the side, first two looking.

Can't wait to actually see her pitch. These two innings seemed pretty impressive
