Texas State has played some solid competition so far. They lost to Baylor in 3 but the first 2 were ultra competitive. In fact Baylor needed a 9-0 run to take a 24-22 lead in game 2.
They also lost to to USC 25-18, 25-19 & 25-22. That's not bad against the #5 team in the country. Texas A&M swept them easily in the first match of the season as well.

25-22 and onto a short break leading 2-0. Sam Sanders with 14 kills and hitting .458. Feekin with 6 kills, 22 assists, 4 digs and 2 block assists, hitting . 750.
It appears TSU wanted to stop Adney, so Chelsey attacked early and they can't easily stop that, leaving Sam with good looks time and time again.
Sure would like to put these guys away right here....don't need them getting any crazy ideas.

Bobcats on a little run, forcing a Shocker timeout, but we still lead 17-11.
Going to be tough to determine the MVP between Sanders and Feekin. Sanders is going to lead the team in kills hitting well over .350 for the tourney. Chelsey is 4 digs from a triple double today (in a 3 set match) and is hitting over .500 for the tourney.

Jordan Loney in the game for the Shocks!
Glad to see this....grrr...and she's out after a double hit and violation.
Feekin ends the match and probably gets the MVP of the tourney.
25-19, 25-22, 25-17. Shocks rode Feekin and Sanders all the way home. Katie Reilly wasn't involved much after set 1. Don't think Masher or Driskill even played. We'll have to continue to develop those kids (including Loney) if we want to keep getting better.

Time will tell but the Shocks have put themselves in a position to be considered for an at large. Barring injury, BYU and Tennessee are going to be ranked all year, CSU is a very, very good win, and NMSU is far from a bad loss.
Even 13-5 in the Valley would keep us in the mix. But starting 2-0 next week at Drake, and more urgently, at Creighton on Saturday would go a LONG way to returning back where we belong.
Lambo will continue to try and find littles to go with Church and someone besides Sam and Emily to put down the ball at net. Great to know there's so much room for improvement while still being really good.

Congrats to the Shocks and to Sam. Did get to listen to Mike to day while doing my fall lawn workover. Listening to this match certainly made that a more pleasant chore. Chelsey could have very well and probably should have been co-MVP with Sam. But that has to be a thrill for Sam to perform like that close to home.
Chelsey showed what an offensive weapon she can be today. Not many teams can match that kind of fire power at the setter position and with Texas State having to account for Chelsey and our strong middles maybe it's not a total surprise that Sam went off on them.
So the Shocks go 6-3 during the pre-conference schedule with OU our lone remaining out-of-conference match. Considering our schedule that is about what I was expeccting although I have to admit I think the competition we have faced has been tougher overal than I was expecting. I new our home tournament would be a bear but both the NIU Tournament and SMU Tournament included very solid and competitive VB teams. Two of our losses were in 5 sets to Top 25 teams. New Mexico State is 6-1 losing only to Northwestern out of the Big 10. However, they get Pepperdine today and Colorad State tomorrow so that could change, but even if the Aggies lose to those matches it shouldn't do any damage to our RPI.
