Defensive specialist pecking order would seem to be Church, Hinkle, Banwart, Urban and I assume Dani Mostrom will redshirt.

I'll admit putting Jordan at #2 is based on very little except that I really like her competitiveness. For all I know, Gabby and Kelsey could be the ones in the mix for the first rotation.

I will believe Jackie is a good as Kelly B. when I see it, and that is by no means disrespecting Jackie. If she proves to be 80% of Kelly B. I think we will be happy. I do think from what I saw in the KU scrimmage and from Lambo's comments that Jordan Hinke will join Jackie on the back row when go with two littles. After that I'm not sure. There is a lot of competition for time at the DS position. As you say it could just as easily be Gabby or Kelsey or mabye even Dani.

At the VB101 dinner we sat at the table with Dani Mostrom's parents and siblings who are from Springfiled, MO. First of all, let me say what a very nice family that was. They could not have made a better impression on me. So I'm thinking we have another very quality individual in Dani. Both Dani and her parents seemed very pleased that she is at WSU. I ask Dani's Dad if she was going to redshirt this year and he said they weren't sure yet. Initially they thought that would be the case, but I guess she has shown enough in practice to a least give the coaching staff something to thing about.

Broussard was absolutely amazing as libero. If Church can pull that off or more, watch out!

It will also be interesting to see who will be the 1st MB coming in behind Ashley and Elizabeth.

Hannah Eakin and Kristin Byers, both at 6'2" would seem to be the top candidates.

Not sure what the plans are for Jaclyn Roddy. Her experience in HS and Club ball is on the outside and she is listed as an OH on the Shocker roster.

Where it gets very interesting is on the outside. We are actually pretty inexperienced behind Emily and Sam and I guess whe are not real sure what the deal is with Sam's foot.

All our other options behind Emily and Sam are freshman. We know Katie D. will not be available. That leaves Ashlyn Driskill, Jacklyn Roddy, Kaite Reilly, Mary Ashton Floyd and Taylor Brownlee as candidates.

My guess is that Ashlyn Driskill will definitely see some good PT this year. After that I have no idea but I would think Lambo may want to get one of the other frosh outsides some experience this year. Let's hope Sam is healthy and Lambo can pick his spots to work in the freshmen and not be forced into making those decisions.

I fully expect to see Ashlyn in the mix from day 1, healthy Sam or not.

                  Lineup

Lambo told me at the VB 101 dinner last Sat night that if Samantha Sanders can't play, Ashlyn Driskill will probably start at ROH.

Did he indicate what was going on with Sam?

                      Sam

No, Lambo didn't say what happened to her. He did say she was hurt & the next morning, an article in the paper said she was healthy, so whatever happened to her must have occurred on Sat at practice. He said if she wasn't ready to go by the 1st game (which is tomorrow) then Ashlyn Driskill would probaby start in her place on the right side. I interpret that to mean that whatever happened to Samantha might not be too bad to get over as I got the impression she might be ready to go by the 1st game.

From todays Match Day write up by Pual Suellentrop:

Lamb’s front-row plans are in flux while he evaluates the health of junior Sam Sanders, who missed practice this week with leg and foot pain. When healthy, she will likely play on the right. Freshmen Ashlyn Driskill and Katie Reilly are expected to contribute on the pins.

Seems likely that you can write off Sam this weekend. As stated, most of us expected to see a lot of Ashlyn Driskill anyway, but this is really the first we've heard of Katie Reilly being mentioned as an alternative.

Sounds like Katie Reilly is an alternative because of the non-VB injury to Katy Dudzinski and now the issues with Sam. Hopefully, Katie is up to the task and takes full advantage of this opportunity. If she does, then that just makes us that much better and deeper down the line. Go get 'em Katie.

Sure hope Sam makes a full and complete recovery from whatever ails her. I would love to see Sam have an injury free and pain free season as a Shocker before she is done.

How can a young male not support that? I've said before, the first thing that attracted me to the sport in HS were the attractive, athletic girls in tight shorts. I learned to enjoy the actual game after that.
