For perhpas the 1st time this season the Shocks have a reasonably good shot of taking both matches expecially if they can continue to play low error rate volleyball like thye did against USF. That said this Shokcer team is also susceptible to losing to just about any team in the AAC on any given day.

Looking forward to see how the ladies react to picking up a win and playing better against USF.

McKayla Wuensch is still out this weekend under the concussion protocol.

Nicole and Sina are in the starting lineup. 5 true freshmen are in the starting lineup. Kayce, Sina, Nicole, Sophia and Arianna. Dmadj and Brooke are the starting middles. I assume one of the middles will come off when Arianna takes the floor at the start of the match.

          Dmadj comes off to start.

            Pre-match comments

Happy with practice the last two weeks. Kayce's improvement and resulting improvement with the middles has brought more balance to the offense.

The "best in the gym" changes from day-to-day, but overall, the Shocks are moving upward.

            Some positive remarks about Arianna.

UConn has the talent, but lots of changes, so it is taking awhile to come together. Played SMU three very tough sets last weekend.

McKayla not on the trip (concussion protocol) but may be available next weekend.

              Set One

Five freshmen in the starting lineup including Sina and Nicole. Sophia, Arianna and Kayce are the other freshman along with Damadj and Brooke.

Megan and Kora rotate in for Kayce and Sophia.

6-4 before UConn goes on a run to 6-8.

14-11 is the first three-point lead of the match.

16-12 and UConn takes a TO.

              Nicole is 3-0-7 for .429.

19-14 and another TO by the Huskies.

21-16 is the first two-point "run" for UConn since reaching 6-8.

A kill by Brooke ends the first set at 25-17.

              .351 v .156

Sina with six kills - 6-0-10 for .600.

Only Shocker hitting error was a Huskie block.

Neither team overly impressive to this point with Shocks leading 16-12.

Shocks keeping there errors down for the 2nd match in a row (at least so far). Only 1 attack error vs 7 attack errors for UConn.

Shocks win by 8. UConn had 9 attack errors - the Shocks only 1 which pretty much accounts for the scoring margin.

Thought Kayce looked much better setting than Kora did in that set.

After a slow start the Shocks finished with a Kill % of .378 which is solid for them and only 1 attack error which is very good as the Shocks outhit UConn .351 to .156.

Megan not playing 6 rotations in this match so far.

Shocks lead 16-12 forcing a UConn TO. Same as set 1. Shocks not quite as clean this set.

Shocks closing it 25-17 to duplicate the Set 1 score. Shocks outhit UConn .257 to .162. The Shocks had a service ace and 4 blocks while Uconn had a service ace but only 1 block. Kind of a meh set until the Shocks picked it up a bit late.

Megan has been pretty quiet in this match only hitting 2-1-10 = .100 otherwise pretty good balance and deccent numbers from everybody else.

                      Set Three

Shocks off to a poor start. Call timeout at 6-11.

Brylee Kelly, who has been struggling lately, and Chinelo have not seen the floor so far in this match.

UConn extends their lead to 17-11 Lambo uses his final timeout. Shocks can't get anything going this set offense hitting .037.

Uconn calls a TO after a couple of Shocker points but still lead 22-17.

                      UConn takes the set 25-20.

Not wild about this particular lineup. Chinelo did come in for a few plays late in Set 3. Shocks hit 12-8-42 = .095 in this set. UConn hit .234.

                        Set Four

Shocks change up the line up in Set 4. Emma Wright in for the 1st time tonight and Shock in a 5-1 with Kayce serving.

Shocks have jumped out to a 6-0 lead with 4 blocks. UConn takes a timeout.

Well maybe not in a 6-2 as Kora is in to serve. I though Kayce the match on the front line but I guess not.

Shocks extend their lead to 7-0 out of the timeout but the UConn has now pulled to within 2 at 13-11. Shocks simply do not have very much firepower. Shocks call timeout.

Shocks extend the lead back to 5 at 20-15 but UConn rallies to make it 20-18 and Lambo takes his final timeout.

UConn pulls to within 1 at 21-20 after a hitting error by Megan. A UConn service error, two blocks by Emma and a serivce ace by Arianna to close it out. Shocks win 25-20. Emma with a big blocking game in set 4.

Lambo said they did go to the 5-1 because hitters were scoring at a much higher rate with her serving.

                            13 blocks v 6

                            Service 4/0 v 3/13

Sina 17-3-42 for .333 to lead the hitters

Great to get another win. Not overly impressive with the Shocks tonight. Lambo very happy with the progress Kayce is making.

Lambo very happy with his teams attitudes and effort in practice the last couple of weeks. He said a lot of teams in their situation would have folded up their tents by now.

Temple lost Tulsa tonight in straight sets but it wasn't easy for Tulsa. Scores were 29-27. 26-24 and 27-25. Temple will probably be a much tougher challenge on Sunday. Would not be surprised to see the Shocker start in a 5-1.

UConn had 9 more kills than the Shocks but committed 10 more attack errors than the Shocks. UConn also had 13 service errors to none for the Shocks and the Shocks also outblocked UConn 13-6 thanks in a large part to Emma Wright's 6 blocks in the final set. Maybe we will see more Emma on Sunday.

Sina led the Shocker scoring with 17 kills with 4 errors while hitting .333. One of her better matches in a while. The Shocks need that a Megan was not as good tonight as she has been lately.

I think the Shocks will need to play a little better than tonight to get a win at Temple.
