Shockers never close the gap, losing the fourth set, 20-25, and ISU takes the match, 3-1.

    .175 v .299

    Megan 16-5-33 for .333
    Emma 10-2-21 for .381
    Regan 8-1-20 for .350

    Chase and Tabitha were negative.

      (Missed the first part)

Tabitha's numbers are in part because she is not getting the setting she is used to. Will need to show more patience.

Megan was a positive. Regan's hitting was a plus, but there were a number of missed blocking assignments that they will review with her on tape.

Three or four Cyclones hit above their numbers, frustrating for him because of his coaching the defensive side.

WSU acquitted themselves well in Sets 3 and 4. What got them in the 4th was a slow start and a couple of silly errors at the very end. Iowa State's height gave them fits at the net, but they were still able to run system and score. The middle attack will be formidable when fine-tuned. The good floor defense allows the Shockers to hang in rallies with anyone. Taflinger will be a stud in the AAC.

Looking to tomorrow, Creighton will want to control the net and serve aggressively. I'm guessing Booth will revert to the 5-1 and take her chances with the original starters, unless WSU takes advantage of the weaker block combos with that lineup (Ballenger/Zimmerman, Ballenger/Cole). If you see Welty and Zumach in front and Sharkey in back, then we're in the 6-2.

On a radio show, Booth was asked to explain a comment she made to White & Blue Review about how Wichita does some unconventional things. She said she was referring to Lamb's tendency to switch defenses frequently, even on back-to-back points with the same server. He also disguises coverage. The Jays tried to prepare for it in practice, but spent only 1/3 of the week on Wichita, 1/3 on Nebraska, and 1/3 on Iowa State.

There are some good things to like about this Shocker team especially looking towards the future. A big group of freshman and sophomores with lots of promise. Clearly some things to work on and perhaps a few holes to fill.

Perhaps what I liked best about today was that after faltering in the latter part of the 1st two sets and then finding themselves down 5-11 in Set 3 the Shockers could have easily folded their tents and whimpered off the court. Very pleased to see that did not happen.

Will need that fight tomorrow. Creighton will be ever tougher than Iowa State. Not expecting a win but hoping to see the Shocks fight hard and make Creighton work some.

No Kennedy today? Or just no pre-match show?

Shocks down 3-8 and looking horrible. Shocker time out.

Creighton scores again after the Shocker time out to go up 9-3. At that point Lamb substituted Jordan Roberts for Kora Kauling and that seemed to stabiilize things for the Shocks.

Shocks still trailed by 6 at 9-15 Shocks have rallied to to within one at 17-18.

Shocks continue to rally and now lead 21-19 to force a Creighton timeout.

Shocks have set point at 24-22 but Creighton gets a service ace to close to within 1. Lambo takes a time out.

In an unlikely ending Tabitha and Emma blocked Creighton's best attacker Taryn Kloth and the Shockers pull out a win after looking dead in the water early in the set.

A little sloppy at times but they showed some grit to battle back and take the first set.

Megan Taflinger was outstanding in Set 1. 4-0-5 on attacks plus 2 service aces.

No question that Creighton has more fire power than the Shocks and if they can stay in system they are tough to stop.

Creighton ties the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 win in set 2. Creighton seemed to be in system quite a bit more than the Shocks were that set and they are definitely more terminal when in system.

Creighton cruises to a 25-16 win in Set 3 to go up 2-1.

Bummer we couldn't make it to 5 but that last set was pretty exciting. I have a pretty rudimentary understanding of volleyball schemes or none at all really...what are some of the things Lambo could do help offset the disadvantages we have against teams with good height?

Good question but above my pay grade as well. I'm sure his has different blocking schemes that he can deploy to try to combat what the other team is doing plus he can make adjustments with who he has in the back row and how he wants them to play. But sometimes when the other team can jump higher and hit harder than you then sometimes you just can't over come that. The other big advantage this Creighton team had is they are a lot older than the Shocks. One thing Lambo has said many times over is that in volleyball older is better.

Shocks fought hard but couldn't quite get it done falling 23-25 in Set 4 as Creighton closes out the match at 3-1.

Creighton is pretty clearly the better team especially with the 2 senior outside hitters 6-4 Taryn Kloth and 6-3 Jaali Winters pounding away on the pins.

Shocks did about as well as I thought they could do this weekend and if you had told me Tabitha would hit 7-13-50 = -.120 for the weekend I would have expected much worse.

Lambo did think his team took a step forward today especially with their willingness to battle.

Shocks at 4-4 on the season and quite frankly that is about as good as could be expected against this schedule especially with such a young team, the injury to Regan Stiawalt and the lack of production from Tabitha.

Things lighten up some next weekend although Cal Poly is obviously very good.
