Iowa State has an excellent block, Schaben is a terminal hitter who is also good in back, Lazard and Holthaus are good, the setter is consistent, and Hillegas is a good libero. The Cyclones will make noise in the Big 12, along with TX, KU, Baylor, and KSU. Creighton was in deep trouble last night, coming out flat as I had feared and was enroute to being swept. Booth rolled the dice in Set 2 with the Jays down 7. She benched 2 starters, switched to a 6-2 (something she hasn't run in at least 5 years), and went to the 3 freshmen and a second setter. The momentum swung as dramatically as I've ever seen in a Jays game. All of a sudden we could handle the ISU block.
After the game, Booth said, "I have no idea what lineup I'll go with on Sunday."
If I am not mistaken the Shocks pulled of that 3rd set comeback and win with Tabitha on the bench.. Not sure if she is injured or just benched due to poor play.
A quick (and perhaps inaccurate) scan of the play-by-play indicates that Tabitha never got back to the front row. Not sure who was playing back row in her place.
Shockers trying to spike all the free balls, and often hit them into the net. Most teams I've seen are content to float them toward the back line and take a chance on defense.
