  • American 2018 Non-Con Schedule/Results

    And so it begins.

Lots of activity today. Even a few matches completed.

The American is off to a 4-0 start (3-0 against D1 competition).

USF 3-1 over San Jose State 19 (17) 17 14 (picked 6th in the Mountain West).

Tulsa 3-0 over Bowling Green 21 12 22 (preseason 2nd in the MAC).

UConn struggled with Wright State but won in 5, (22) 23 (22) 19 11 (Wright State preseason 8th in the 9 team Horizon).

ECU beat Spring Hill College 24 20 20.

Looks like everyone is in action today, many playing 2 matches. UConn at future Shocker opponent WVU tonight is probably the most interesting outside of WSU's match. Cincy should have no problem with UCSB but seeing how JT is returning to the court for the 1st time in more than a year will be a curious point at least.

Houston with a quick sweep of Murray State. Surprising, because Houston was rather terrible last season.

Cincy won in 5 sets over UCSB. Not a great start for the Bearcats.

      Following the Good Doctor's example,

Houston by 13, 18, 19 over Murray State

      Cincinnati by 21, (16), 16, (20), 13 over UCSB
Jordan Thompson had 27 of the 58 kills for the Bearcats and had a line of 27-9-61 for .295

12 (16) 16 (20) 13. JT with 27 kills. For a bit of a measuring stick, Emily Stockman had 30 in a 5 set match one time, the highest ever by a Shocker in the rally scoring era.

That's a bunch to put on 1 young lady, in the 1st match of the year. But then again, what if she's just getting her legs back? Imagine if that's only a starting point.

          Temple 3-1 over Rhode Island. 15 (19) 29 22.

          Tulsa goes to 2-0 with a 3-1 win over Wofford. 22 17 (20) 22

So far the American is 9-0 but both SMU and UCONN are in deep holes.

The American was 14-3 on Friday, but no really good wins. WSU's win over JMU on the road was probably the best win.

Temple had a shot at a quality win over a really solid LMU team in Philly but fell short in 4. (18) 18 23 20

Cincy got 22 kills from Jordan Thompson in a sweep of St Louis 20 21 26 If she stays healthy, JT is a no doubter POY, AA and future national team member. She's that good.

Iowa beat SMU 3-1. The Hawkeyes are an improving program in the always tough and deep B10 but they are still picked in the bottom half of the league 17 (21) 21 18

UCONN was all over the place against 0-3 Georgia Southern eventually winning in 5. 8 (22) (24) 21 14.

USF moves to 3-0 with a 3-2 win over Stony Brook. USF hosted this tourney. 21 (21) 21 (25) 10

Memphis swept an awful Arkansas-Pine Bluff team 17 12 7

                UCF swept Florida Atlantic 16 18 20

                Houston (3-0) swept Nebraska-Omaha (0-3) in 3 hard fought sets 31 19 23

                Tulane swept Incarnate Word 16 21 15

Tulsa suffered their first loss of the season getting spanked at #23 Purdue in West Lafayette 9 11 23

Memphis, UCF, Tulane, Cincinnati, Temple & ECU are all in action again tonight.

Not that most people care, but over in the Valley, UNI beat #13 Creighton 3-0, lost to #10 USC 0-3 and has #5 Kentucky tonight. Nice tourney.

Missouri State is finding life after Lily Johnson not a lot of fun so far, losing to Alabama, Western Kentucky and College of Charleston. The Bears will be ok though.

Yikes, pretty disastrous night so far. Everyone losing, Cincy is even. Was hoping to see a little more progression amongst our conference brethren.

                      Miami sweeps UCF 22 20 20

Temple has rebounded down 2-1 and trailing 10-14 to win the set and force a 5th. I misspoke about everyone trailing....Tulane won their 1st set against ULL and trailed 13-19 and 21-24 before pulling the proverbial rabbit out of the Green Wave and taking the 2nd set 27-25. Cincinnati dropped the 1st set to Miami (OH) but has rebounded to win sets 2 & 3 and now trails in the 4th 2-7.

Arkansas State sweeps Memphis. No stats. I watched some of the match. Memphis has a new coach and lost 7 players from last season. They don't have much to work with at all. I give the coach credit for trying....he's got a couple kids working on jump serves but I could take a CPL all star team and likely whip the Tigers.

                          Hofstra gets Temple in Philly 16 18 (24) (19) 7 Disappointing result.

Cincy going to a 5th set.

                          Tulane finishes off ULL 22 25 15

                            Southern Miss whips ECU 19 16 15

Pretty disappointed in the schedule of many, if not most, of our conference. You need to try at least one weekend.
