The league is 1-4 tonight and hoping UC can win the 5th against Miami (OH) but they are in a dogfight down 8-10 in the 5th.

Off topic, Lipscomb and Iowa are playing a tremendous match in Nashville. Tied at 6 in the 5th. How did we let Carlyle Nusbaum out of the KC area?

    Miami beats Cincy in 5 23 (21) (15) 21 12 Jordan Thompson was 24-8-64 .250

UNI playing very well to open the season. Creighton had beaten #5 Kentucky before falling to UNI. UNI gave #10 USC all they could handle at USC losing 25-27, 23-25 and 20.25.

Cincinnati picks up a nice road win at #25 Colorado State today winning in 4 serts -- 25-23, 26-24, 27-29 and 25-15. Jordan Thompson was 31-4-66 = .364 to carry the Bearcats to victory.

Cincy plays TCU tonight at 7:00 in Ft. Collins and Florida State (who owns a sweep over TCU) tomorrow.

Temple was swept at #6 Penn State on Friday night but were very competitive losing 19, 22 and 22. The Owls were swept by Texas A&M today 18, 24 and 17. Temple loses in 5 sets to Indiana this evening in State College to close out their weekend.

A few other AAC scores worthy of note:
            Duke 3 - USF 1
            NC State 3 - SMU 1
            Louisville 3 - UCF 0
            Georgia Tech 3 - Tulane 1
            USF 3 - LSU 2
            Creighton 3 - SMU 0 (SMU gave Creighton a tough match losing 25, 24 amd 21)

UCF with perhaps the biggest win of the year for the AAC so far with a 3-1 win over #7 Southern Cal in Gainesville, Florida.

Cincinnati picks up a 5-set win over TCU tonight also.

Houston at 8-0 is racking up the wins and looks like they will continue to do so because there schedule sucks. USF is 5-1 but also have less than a stellar non-con schedule. Tulane at 6-2 and UConn at 5-2 belons in this club as well. ECU is 4-2 and their non-con schedule is as bad or worse than Houston's. Tulsa is 4-2 there schedule has some positives but could still be improved. Memphis has a pretty weak schedule as well and still are struggling. Racking up the wins perhaps but not doing much for the prestige and RPI of the league.

UCF has loaded up early with consecutive matches against Miami, Louisville, USC and Florida, But before and after that it isn't too pretty.

The first half of SMU's non-con schedule was quite good. The 2nd half of it not so much.

I think WSU, Cincy and Temple are definitely trying to schedule for RPI. Lambo pretty much has that down to a science (as your would expect from a mad scientist) plus he definitely works hard on scheduling with RPI in mind.

Non-con winning percentages won't have any predictive value in the AAC.

Right now I like Cincy as the favorite. UCF's win over USC certainly raises their stock. WSU has the potential but has a lot of things to work out but they should continue to improve. SMU and Temple are capable of beating anyone in the league and most likely will have a say in who ends up on top.

Cincy plays Florida State in Ft. Collins today and UCF takes on #4 Florida in Gainesville today.

Cincy picks up a 5-set victory over Florida State to go 5-1. The Bearcats continue to ride Jordan Thompson for all she's worth (which is a lot). Jordan was 32-8-70 - .343 today.

6-2 RSo. OH Erica Kostelac had a very fine match as well going 16-3-35 = .271.

#4 Florida barely survives the 1st against UCF winning 26-24. UCF lead most of the way with Forida taking its first lead at 19-17. UCF was serving for the set at 24-23 but a service error tied it up. Then a Florida kill and a UCF attack error won it for Florida. Statistically this set could not have been more even.

UCF must be for real and they are a pretty young team. The only senior is their libero. Their 3 main scoring threats include 2 sophomores and a freshman all of whom are outside hitters. Doesn't look like they rely on their middles at all. The setting is handled by two sisters, Jr. Erin Olson who transferred from Bradley after 1 year with the Braves and Fr. Amber Olson.

UCF cruises to a 25-17 win in set 2 to tie the match at 1-1 and Florida is very lucky that it isn't 0-2.

Florida rallies for a 25-23 win in set 3 after UCF had forged a 14-10 lead. Florida leads 2-1.

Set 4 goes to Florida 25-17 to close out the match at 3-1. Tremendous effort by UCF.

Florida announcers talking up UCF's libero, Senior Jordan Pingel.

UCF goes 1-2 this weekend losing to Louisville and Florida and beating USC. This has to be a big boost to the confidence of this young UCF team and I would think certianly serves as a shot across the bow of the other favorites in the AAC.

Note that Florida, also a young team, opened the season with a 3-1 win at #2 Nebraska and a 5-set loss to #3 Texa in Lincoln.

With UCF, Cincy, Shocks, and Houston (in no particular order), the AAC is strong at the top. Having seen SMU, they're middle tier but have some talent (libero, quickset middle play, OH1 in system) and could spring upsets. Tulane has a great libero and can beat anyone in the conference.

Duke kept Jordan Thompson well contained today and swept Cincinnati in Durham 19, 16 and 23. Thompson was 15-9-45 = 0.133 today which is well below her usual effectiveness.

Houston sustained its 1st loss of the year getting swept at home by UTSA 21, 23 and 24 perhaps providing credence that their 8-0 start was largely a result of a weak schedule. That may or may not be tested again this weekend as they have matches reamining with Cornell, Lamar and Houston Baptist.

SMU lost at home in 5 sets to a mediocre 2-5 Montana State team. SMU swept Louisiana today to move to 2-6 on the season.

Temple played #21 Utah very tough today for three sets before falling in 5. The Owls took a 2-1 lead at 25-23, 25-27, 27-25 before running out of gas a losing the last two sets 20-25 and 8-15. Temple falls to 1-7 on the season. Temple as played a better schedule than many of the other AAC teams.

Tulane lost a 5-set match to Navy on Friday but bounced back to sweep Rutgers 15, 18 and 26 later in the afternoon. The Green Wave overwhelmed former Shocker opponent Howard this morning 13, 16 and 13 to move to 8-3 on the year.

Memphis with a bit of a surprise knocking of 9-1 Ole Miss in Oxford on Tuesday for their 5th straight win and probably their best win of the year. Scores were 16-25, 25-21, 30-28, 20-25 and 15-10. Memphis is now 7-5 on the year.
