    Set Two

Shockers get a 16-13 lead, the largest by either team, and ECU takes a timeout.

Abbie is contributing a bit more, and Tabitha has yet to get untracked. ECU has upped their hitting percentage this set.

At 22-16, the Pirates take another timeout. Emma had a couple of nice kills since the last timeout.

    Boom-shocka!

    Shockers 25-16 ECU

For the set, .500 v .240. For the match, .406 v .119 and four blocks to one.

Everybody but Tabitha (.071) is hitting .400 or better.

Nice understatement about Abbie. She was 2-1-6 = 0.167 in Set 1.

In Set 2 she was 7-0-8 = 0.875. Yes, she contributed a bit more.

With the exception of Tabitha all our attackers are killing it.

Yeah, a new Abbie was doing better, I just had not looked at the stats. Some people spell "a lot" "a b-i-t." :)

    Set Three

The Shockers jump to an early lead and stretch it to 12-5 to bring on an ECU timeout.

ECU never bothered with its last timeout. What are you going to say? Why prolong the agony?

    Shockers 25-14 ECU

For the match, .400 v .108 and five blocks v two.

    Abbie 12-1-21 for .524
    Mikaela 10-2-19 for .421
    Alex 8-2-16 for .375
    Emma 6-1-11 for .455
    Emily 7-1-9 for .667
    Tabitha 10-6-24 for .167

Very nice. Wish there was a post-game radio show.

That was a total dismantling of the 4th place team in the Conference on the road. As disappointed as the Shocks were with their play against Temple they should as happy with the way they played today. Not sure our passing was the greatest but perhaps that is being picky. Will miss Lambo's post-game thoughts but Mike should get some comments about this match from Lambo in Sunday's pregame show before the Cincy match.

Dismantling: only seven two-point runs by ECU in the match and only one three-point run

Shocks now up a full 3 games with 5 to play making their magic number any combination of Shocker wins and SMU losses equal to 3.

According to my calculations Emily's target number is now 98.

The hitting lines today were terrific.

    Miikaela 10-2-19 = .421 (Mikaela added 12 digs for a double-double)
    Emma 6-1-11 = .455
    Alex 8-2-16 = .375
    Emily 7-1-9 = .667
    Abbie 12-1-21 = .524

Only Tabitha struggled a bit today but even she came on in the 3rd set and she did finish with 10 kills.

Great scoring balance in this match.

Unfortunately, she had six of the thirteen Shocker hitting errors. There's that "a bit" again. :)

Kind of makes you wonder if maybe ECU had geared their defense to stop Tabitha and force the other outside hitters to beat them. If so, it worked perfectly (the other Shocker outsides pounded them).

Tabitha also seems to be getting a good portion of the out of system balls these days and that can be a tough way for an OH to make a living.

I suspect ECU has seen just about enough of Abbie Lehman this year. She did get off to a slow start in today's match but came on storng in the final 2 sets. In her 2 matches agaisnt ECU covering 6 sets of play Abbie is hitting 29-3-45 = .578. Dadgummit, that's purty gud.

To add insult to injury in the middle Emma Wright was 6-1-11= .455 and she didn't even play against ECU the 1st time around.

For the curious, Missouri State hosts Northern Iowa tomorrow at noon. The match is on ESPN3.

Quote from the ECU coach: "Wichita State is a great team with a strong tradition, but I was unhappy with our lack of energy. We will work on that for Sunday because that is part of our DNA here at ECU. We still have a number of goals that we can accomplish this season."
