The Lady Shocks (20-3, 12-0) take on the teams they opened AAC play with UConn (10-14, 3-9) visiting Koch Arena Friday at 7 pm and 2nd place Temple (13-6, 9-2) at Noon on Sunday. Don't forget to set your clocks back 1 hour. These are the last home matches until the regular season finale as the Shocks go on the road for 5 consecutive matches before closing out the season at home against Memphis.
I thought UConn played the Shocks very tough in Storrs and I'm a bit surprised they are only 3-9 in AAC play. Lambo has commented that UConn is one of those AAC teams that have the talent to really give you a problem if you catch them playing well.
Scouting UConn
The Huskies are 10-14 overall and 3-9 in The American. Wins this season have come against New Hampshire, St. John's, Iona, Hartford, Albany, UMKC, Grand Canyon, Memphis, Tulane and USF. Losses have come against Sacramento State, LSU, Villanova, Princeton, Bradley, Wichita State, Houston twice, Cincinnati, ECU, UCF, SMU, Tulsa and Tulane. UConn is led by Kayla Williams who is averaging 3.88 kills per set, while Emma Turner averages 9.77 assists and Kennedy Arundel averages 3.67 digs per set. As a team, the Huskies are hitting .196, while holding opponents to a .196 clip. UConn is led by head coach Kris Grunwald.
Temple played the Shocks even tougher on the 1st weekend of AAC play and despite a couple of key injuries they are playing very well and seem to be getting stronger as the season progresses. This is match has very important ramifications for the AAC championship race. I am anticipating a very tough match with the Owls. Typically the Shocks have drawn better crowds for Friday matches then they have for mid-day Sunday matches. However, this weekend would be a good time to have a big turnout at both matches.
