  • Shocks Host UConn and Temple

The Lady Shocks (20-3, 12-0) take on the teams they opened AAC play with UConn (10-14, 3-9) visiting Koch Arena Friday at 7 pm and 2nd place Temple (13-6, 9-2) at Noon on Sunday. Don't forget to set your clocks back 1 hour. These are the last home matches until the regular season finale as the Shocks go on the road for 5 consecutive matches before closing out the season at home against Memphis.

I thought UConn played the Shocks very tough in Storrs and I'm a bit surprised they are only 3-9 in AAC play. Lambo has commented that UConn is one of those AAC teams that have the talent to really give you a problem if you catch them playing well.

    Scouting UConn
The Huskies are 10-14 overall and 3-9 in The American. Wins this season have come against New Hampshire, St. John's, Iona, Hartford, Albany, UMKC, Grand Canyon, Memphis, Tulane and USF. Losses have come against Sacramento State, LSU, Villanova, Princeton, Bradley, Wichita State, Houston twice, Cincinnati, ECU, UCF, SMU, Tulsa and Tulane. UConn is led by Kayla Williams who is averaging 3.88 kills per set, while Emma Turner averages 9.77 assists and Kennedy Arundel averages 3.67 digs per set. As a team, the Huskies are hitting .196, while holding opponents to a .196 clip. UConn is led by head coach Kris Grunwald.

Temple played the Shocks even tougher on the 1st weekend of AAC play and despite a couple of key injuries they are playing very well and seem to be getting stronger as the season progresses. This is match has very important ramifications for the AAC championship race. I am anticipating a very tough match with the Owls. Typically the Shocks have drawn better crowds for Friday matches then they have for mid-day Sunday matches. However, this weekend would be a good time to have a big turnout at both matches.

    Scouting Temple
The Owls are 13-6 overall and 9-2 in The American. Wins this season have come against Northeastern, St. John's, Albany, Boston College, Memphis, Tulane, Houston twice, Cincinnati, USF, UCF, Tulsa, and SMU. Losses have come against UMBC, Maryland, Colgate, Villanova, Wichita State, and ECU. Temple is led by Izzy Rapacz who averages 3.56 kills per set. Kyra Coundourides averages 10.19 assists and Mia Heirakuji averages 4.10 digs per set. As a team, the Owls are hitting .249, while holding opponents to a .185 clip. Temple is led by head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam.
WICHITA, Kan. -  Wichita State hosts two American Athletic Conference matches this weekend. The Shockers play UConn on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. and second-place Temple on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 12 p.m.

I'm not expecting a slaughter. Shocks should win but stranger things have happened. It's the nature of sport.

BTW, good luck in the Big East finals Sunday. I intend to follow the team through the NCAA tournament.

(The Huskies are the #1 ranked field hockey team and the only remaining undefeated team in the country.)

Pablo has both the Sunday match against Temple and the road match at SMU, the expected closest matches remaining, as just over 80% win probabilities. But as noted, that probability is less than 100%.

            The Huskies were just overmatched.

            14 16 11

Actually, when the WBB team goes to Storrs, then we will see overmatched.

Well your were right. It pretty much was a slaughter. Didn't help UConn that their leading attacker did not play for whatever reason although that would have been unlikely to change the outcome.
Shocks played well but probably not their best but it was plenty good enough tonight.

When you outhit your opponent .494 to .019 and you only make 3 errors on 77 attacks it would be extremely difficult not to win going away.

Memphis is serving for the match at 14-13 in the 5th set against Temple.

Live stats quit on me at that point so not sure what happened.

Per the post-game show, Kayla Williams did not play for UConn for a non-injury reason. I am sure that explains some of the result.

                    Same here. Good ol' Sidearm.

SMU is now in the fifth at Houstoon.

That has been a real dog fight with the 1st four sets settled by the minimum 2 point margin.

By my calculations, today's crowd of 3696 pushes us past Illinois for #10 in the nation in attendance.

That was a legit 3700 too. Lots of people in the house tonight. Monday's crowd may only be slightly larger.

Shockers still on course to do something uniquely special... run the table as the newbie in their conference. Mighty impressive.
